fps games suck with pads

also console gfx just suck

I played black ops on pc at 1080 high detail then just now try ps3 version.

Its terrible the gfx are really awful compare to a high sepc pc.

I would like to see someone trying to play the new Tribes game with a pad. Would give me major lols. Would be kind of like watching people play Quake 3 with a pad. Never before have I seen so much fail.

Well I've recently switched to gaming FPS on a PS3 & I'm having a blast. Yes there was a harsh learning curve but I just stuck at it & am now playing & loving MW3 & am breaking even K/D wise.
If I can switch & adapt at my ripe old age then anybody can, Kicking back on my reclining leather chair & playing MW3 on my 40" flatty with the surround sound blasting out is Awesome.
No more upgrades/system glitches/6 weekly Dust clear outs/sitting up my desk with headphones on/wondering whether a game I just pay 40 quid for will work etc etc etc etc

OMG Heresy in the PC Gaming section. Call for ban! Call for ban!

Only joking, to be fair I do actually see your point and I enjoy console gaming sometimes, but for FPS, RTS games (and whatever World of Tanks is) I'd rather just use the keyboard and mouse. I remember playing COD4 on a Xbox 360 and being terrible at it, makes me feel bad so don't like doing it! :p

Since when was this a console vs PC thread?

Its a gamepad vs keyboard / mouse thread, both of which can be used on the PC.

I think the main reason so many people think joypads are ok for FPS games is that they're only ever using a joypad against other joypad users.

Even if you get plenty of practise with a pad, you're still effectively using the wrong tool for the job. Tools are designed to make tasks easier so why handicap yourself with something that doesn't give you full control?

I think the only thing that would be better than a mouse to aim in games would be a system that tracks where you look

no way would that have the kind of pin point accuracy required for FPS gaming.

We've been using the mouse to play FPS games since quake. Its not changed a lot since then for a reason.

I think that kind of accuracy is getting pretty close tbh

At the Eurogamer show there was a system there that allowed you to control a driving game with your head/eyes and that was fairly accurate. We might still be a few years away from it but at the end of the day it isn't a question of 'if' but a question of 'when' it happens!

Whether they decide to use it in games is another matter, I'm sure there would be purists who would still prefer mouse/keyboard :p

Apart from all the people on this forum (myself included) that use both and are capable of happily playing an FPS game with either.

Yes, given the choice I would pick K+M the majority of the time, however the pad is still a perfectly usable option for playing FPS games.

A bunch of PC elitists sucking at using a pad, doesn't make it an possible to use peripheral.

So when you play FPS games on a PC you plug in a joypad?

Nobody is saying they're impossible to use >.< they're just not as good as a mouse and keyboard

List of games on the PC that work better with a 360 controller:

Witcher 2
Skyrim
Alice Madness Returns
Super Meat Boy
Binding of Issac
Magic the Gathering

And theres likely many more that I havnt yet tried.
Bastion

i treid to compare playing black ops with keys then with joypad on my ps3. I noticed that not only was pad annoying the gfx were really poor. Much worse than I imagined.

Same as you don't need the split second speed unless you play on the very hard settings, but even then the auto aim assist helps massively there too.

As for killzone 3, I played through it using the sharpshooter and playstation move + nav attachments and it was insanely good. Quite hard to get use to the movement, kinda like an arcade machine way of moving with the gun in your hand, yet it really threw me into the game in a way you often don't quite appreciate with a pad. It also allowed the split second aiming of a good mouse if you was fast and skilled enough to use it.

Just a shame its so bloody expensive to buy still though as the move kit was £40, nav controller was £18 and the gun itself was another £35 ontop of that!

I played through KZ3 using the Sharpshooter and it was awesome. I still have to get Resistence 3 so I can use it again. Much better immersion than you get with a pad, and even a pad is more immersive than M&K.

I try and play all my FPS with a pad when playing single player.

Ipad sux for FPS

my PC sux for carrying round the house

my phone sux for browsing the internet

and my camera takes better pictures then my phone...

I wonder if I should buy a move adn gun etc?

I have killzone 3 and top spin tennis 4 atm and resident evil 5

So when you play FPS games on a PC you plug in a joypad?

I've plugged my PC into my TV, played certain FPS games with a pad and haven't gotten any less out of them from doing so.

Nobody is saying they're impossible to use >.< they're just not as good as a mouse and keyboard

Just earlier you said that people only "think joypads are ok for FPS games" because they've not used to M+K, which is rubbish. Pad is a fine and perfectly usable input method with practice. It won't cut the mustard in a competitive PC environment, but discarding it from any FPS situation is retarded.

Skyrim while not an FPS as such was much better suited to a pad than the default M+K controls imo.
