Is gaming all day bad for your eyes.

I work in IT and spend personal time at PCs too and I've got short sighed over the years. Can't prove it's the PC screen, and I'm also diabetic but I honestly think it's at least partially due to looking at a monitor 2 feet away that's damaged my vision

Same. Ever since I got into multiplayer gaming which was with a PS3 5 years ago, I sat by my 40" TV quite close and I am now short sited.

If i some how played bf3 in 3d for 24 hours. Would my eyes pop and i get a peter griffing singing "im a tumour" in my head?

Studies have shown that gaming/watching TV/Reading in low light conditions doesn't have any permanent effects on your eyesight, only temporary eye strain:

The majority consensus in ophthalmology, as outlined in a collection of educational material for patients, is that reading in dim light does not damage your eyes. Although it can cause eye strain with multiple temporary negative effects, it is unlikely to cause a permanent change to the function or structure of the eyes.

Of course, it's completely different to staring close range at a computer screen for hours, which probably does damage your eyesight.
:)

I game pretty hardcore consoles and pcs over the years i had eye test recently and the optician said not many people have prefect eye sight and mine was as close as it gets to prefect.

Maybe it will effect me more later in life.

lol @ the people getting on their high horse telling you to get a life, i would have thought the would be to busy with their own rewarding fulfilling life's to waste time telling you to get one.

Exactly.

Some of us not blessed with being able to game all day, (not that I would) I have other responsibilities that take priority in my life, such as earning a living to support my 4 month old son and fiancée, whilst keeping my house and paying bills.

Some people don't have a clue and live in their own little world, I don't understand how one could sit and game all day, it would seriously warp my head and send me into a weird state of mind, surely it's damaging to the mind and brain as well.

Don't get me wrong I do like gaming, as I'm sure most people on this forum does, but there is a time and a place for it, at least there is in my life.

haha you can only the imagine the thoughts in my head driving down the road after 5+ hrs of GTA or saints row lol.

It affects your mental health as well. Studies have shown that people who do spend all day gaming start to lack social skills. You'll start to lose the friends you already have and you would have lost the skills required to make new ones.

I got online gaming buddies.

Truth is at high school meeting up with amtes and sleepovers revolved around the PS1 or N64 anyway.

Its not like we ever socialise much unless gaming, mayeb to play a sport or soemthing.

Id rather game than sit with a bunch of people and no console. When I go to mates 1st thing to do is get the console on.

Or we go to pub to play pool, or park to play footy....know what I mean.

Like at uni I hate sitting around just talking gets boring

Yes, your eyes go square and when you finally go outside the first thing you think of is how amazing the graphics are.

Man I was thinking how good the 3d graphics are outside....almost as good and life like as BF3...but not quite.

Already tried that, real life is nothing but pure overrated suckage.

Most my mates do anyway is similar lol..work, sit in house and play cod or whatever online
