Is gaming all day bad for your eyes.

If you are at home all day, can I ask how you manage to pay for there fancy toys?

I robbed a video game shop.

I had a job and lots of savings I bought my pc 2-3 years ago and my ps3 4 years ago but got a new one for my b-day actually after it YLOD.

I buy used games long after release date for 5-10 quid, then I sell them once completed on amazon

SO gaming doesnt cost me anything but internet 15 quid per month

Not only bad for your eyes, for your health in general, why don't you get a job and do something constructive with your life? being a hermit is not the way forward, and quite frankly a sad and dull life.
i agree to that if the person is able too..

i use my pc all day everyday and have been doing so for 20 years~.

i'm disabled so without the pc i'd be board to hell.

there are cool things to do outside but im quite homely. specifically id have to go out for a reason.

1. The zoo
2. A party/bar to play pool etc.
3. A nice walk
4. Cinema
5. Play sports, football, golf etc..
6. meet hot girls

Apart from that I dont see much point to actually being out your house. And when in house PC/tv is main thing.

You can get eye strain from staring at a screen too long. I think I managed to strain my eyes playing skyrim for 16 hours straight.

I think I am incredibly lucky. I have played games excessively since a kid (33 now). And I mean really excessively, be it wow 5 years solid, CS before that, planetarian before that etc etc and have spent the last 10 years working in jobs that mean I gaze at computer screens all day long too. I still have 20/20 vision and rarily get head aches. Touch Wood.

trust me if you got the use of your legs ect taken away from you, you would miss being able to go out and doing stuff...

you really don't know how lucky u are tbh.

I don't think you qualify for number 6 m8 tbh. You should sit and watch the movie Weird Science, you might get somewhere :p

I appreciate your view point and as much as I would hate to be disabled it does not change the fact I enjoy video games and movies etc over many other activities.

Thats just the way it is. I have since a kid and still do love video games.

I think it depends on your monitor and the lighting your room.

I have a glass screen (it's a touch screen) and it's definitely more straining to use than my standard Dell screen, especially when there's light shining directly at the screen.

Whether or not staring at a screen all day does permanent damage is unknown to me. I've been doing it for 9 years and have only in the past yr become very slightly short sighted. Conversely both my parents were wearing glasses by my age (or a little older).

what i mean is you know your able to go out and do stuff hence why you prefer to stay in and yes be "lazy". but if that was taken away from u being able to go out and do stuff you would think total different.

i know what you are saying but if I broke my hand i coudl not play guitar or video games etc...

It would suck to know i cant do something. But I mean what can I do right now? What do I want to do? I have no reason I cant do anything?

Well its cold outside and I chose to sit and play video games.

What would I prefer to do?

In all honesty

1. Play football....id do that right now if my mates had a game..but we dont.
2. Go out and sex hot girls...I would that but Im not sure my success will be great. Plus I have no money or job to spend money.
3. Go to pub/snooker hall, have a few drinks and play pool

Really 4th thing on my list is...play video games.

Well I have money saved and after January plan to travel asia for 2-3 months so will have 0 video games then and will be doing lots of cool different thigns most days....so im also saving my savings by sitting in playing video games.

however I will have to travel alone so that scares me and I may not do it? But as you say you never know whats round corner so whislt young and fit take a chance and travel?

Studies have shown that gaming/watching TV/Reading in low light conditions doesn't have any permanent effects on your eyesight, only temporary eye strain:

Of course, it's completely different to staring close range at a computer screen for hours, which probably does damage your eyesight.
:)

Agree with this. It may cause eyestarin but is unlikely to damage your eyes, unless perhaps the screen is way too bright.

Generally, everyone's eyesight will deteriorate gradually, especially once you hit 40!
