Android - male dominated?

Wrong, women tend to buy what their friends have, or recommend it's nothing to do with the stigma, since every Android phone is different.

It's a case of she has an Iphone, so I should have one too.

I don't think that's true, I think it's more a case of "I need a phone, any phone"

Yes, that is the point I was making as well as the comment I made about the stigma.

They do have a stigma attached to them though, whether people want to admit it or not. Obviously it doesn't affect all women, but certainly some of them.

There's also the case of, 'people will think I'm poor if I don't have an iPhone...'

To quote my other half after I bought a DesireHD:

"Why would I want to buy a phone and then spend hour after hour putting differen't ROM's on it and customising it. Try buying a phone that works to begin with".

.....Yes she's get an iPhone 4.

Needless to say, I got bored of the Android thing. Yes its a great platform if you like customisation but it starts to grate after a while. Take the stock keyboard for instance. It is hopless. Yes there are alternatives you can download but why does it just not work out of the box???

Im now back on an iPhone.

That's your fault though. You've misrepresented the device to her.

The Desire HD isn't great though, so she's wise. :p

The iPhone keyboard is fantastic, I've yet to find an Android one that I consider to be as good, even on the bigger screens.

Which ones have you tried exactly? I have owned/used all of them pretty much and there are a few that are as good as if not better. The iPhone 4 keyboatrd works and is great but it's basic in terms of features as well.

I used to use gokeyboard but it wound me up having to download a keyboard because the stock one is so poor.

She had plenty of time herself on the Desire to come up with her own conclusion.

Swype, Swiftkey, Thumb, Sense, Gingerbread.

What kind of features do you mean? I don't find the iPhone one to be missing any features and it handles multi-language very well too.

If the thought of having to download a better 3rd party app winds you up then you're obviously suited to an iPhone and not an Android. The process takes seconds anyway so quite why or how it can wind anyone up is a mystery.

Features like gesture actions, customisable key layout where you can specify keyboard/key dimensions and an alternative landscape layout that suits 2 handed typing as well as the font sizes if needed. SwiftKey/Thumb Keyboard etc allow for this and also adjusting the long press delay.

Gesture action being the most important one as you can delete a whole work with one swipe or go upper case without having to press the shift key etc. There are others too like theme where a darker KB is better for battery life on an AMOLED handset and so on.

All possibly useful, but none of them essential when it works as well as the iPhone one does.

I'm not saying the Android ones aren't good, but I'd have to give it to the iPhone overall at the moment when it comes to keyboards.

Is there a new one for ICS? Maybe that's an improvement?

The ICS one builds on the GB keyboard with better prediction, nicer spaced out keys and better word suggestion dialogue. It's also a bit faster and has real time voice input. It's not as feature rich as a 3rd party keyboard though and I imagine once they update to support ICS they will also support real time voice and the prediction technologies.

My point is, why should I have to download a different keyboard because the stock one is poor.

Im sure the guys at Google don't sit in Google towers and say "meh....we won't put much effort into doing this because the buyers can get a better alternative from a 3rd party".

Its a backwards way of thinking.

ICS will have a much better keyboard.

Thats good news then. Its only took 3 years.

The Gingerbread keyboard is very good, it's punctuation and character input is very good especially since it suggests them in the ber after each word for quick input. Samsung's keyboard is rubbish and some other maker's are too. It's not Google's fault if Samsung replaced the GB one with their own!

My point was that it's Android, if you don't like what the phone maker put on it then it's so easy to just install something that's better that it's not worth getting wound up over.

Or then you have Samsung, who will probably remove it and replace it with something similar to the embarrassment that was the Galaxy S II TouchWiz keyboard, my god that was AWFUL. :o

Ive heard bad things about TouchWiz. Never used it myself so couldn't pass judgement, however ive not heard one person say its better than stock Android.
