So i bought her a Kindle

I was quite against Kindle's when I first saw them (can't beat the smell and feel of a brand new book) and then I got my Dad a kindle for his birthday, he's hardly put it down when he's not working.

I've used it a bit myself, and while it takes a bit of getting used to (it's not a book) it's brilliant. It really is.

I picked up a Kindle in a shop last week & it looked & felt like one of those cheap crap Amstrad devices of the 80's.

Not what I got when I used one. I really liked it.

I'm torn between getting one myself or getting an iPad, I'll probably go with the iPad due to it's ability to do other things.

I've got the iBooks on my 4s but don't like reading on it.

Looks forward to that day. :p

I know it'll happen eventually as for travel I can see the sense :(

Indeed, same rubbish was sprouted about mp3s and how most people wouldn't do it as they wanted a case with a rework and we all know what happened there.

I'd argue that books are different, but it's a pointless argument as it's personal preference. I think of reading as a right, and free access to books as a right. Lack of support from publishing houses for libraries for various reasons such as profitability and DRM could see the death of the library, and more importantly for me, the death of publicly funded reading.

Ebooks will inevitably take over though, that I accept. I just hope too much isn't lost in the process.

A Kindle is a much better device to read a book on than any Ipad/tablet/smartphone.

Not as good as a paper book obviously but the next best thing.

The sensiable thing is to get both. Many don't like reading on a tablet and a Ebooker is not a multifunctional device. They are very different.

Nowt wrong with it in use it was just the cheap silvery grey plastic & the crap feel just reminded me of that cheap Amstrad crap that was about back then.

I'll probably end up doing this :o

As for now, I've convinced myself I don't need to buy both.

oh! I get what you mean, yeah, suppose you have a point :p

I thought it felt well made and pretty tough, but then again it's not something I'd keep in my back pocket as it wasn't that well made :p

A Kindle, a case (which are stupidly overpriced), and a £10 voucher to get her started are all wrapped up under the tree for my GF.

£130 on books was a bad idea.

If she has read a fair few of the books you bought her by this time next year then it was a good move. If Kindle is sat in a draw collecting dust by this time next year then it was a bad move.

Just bought a Kindle, dont' really see what the problem is. I didn't expect the build quality of an iPad as I wasn't paying for an iPad.. it's not expensive and saves a ton of space on future book purchases.

If I can only get a shot of it now seeing as the wife has claimed the damn thing!
