Question for the Mods and closing threads

You could arguably use something like the infraction system of telling OP's why a thread was closed

I'm not sure that is a good idea tbh.. They would see that as a strike against them when in most cases deleted threads and/or posts are nothing more than that. plus it would create a lot of extra work. In my opinion, if you've had threads deleted or closed, you should have a good idea in the first place.

Of course there is this assumption that things aren't discussed when the opposite is true. It's only the blatantly obvious that dealt with by the individual.

We have had a few threads recently were we've moved out for cleaning before moving back with a clear explanation which I see as being a positive move.

Of course, if any member is so concerned as to why their thread was deleted, then they could always email a moderator rather than post on the forums.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. If anyone wants to know why a thread was closed and it is isn't immediately obvious then email a Don....

Hence why I said 'something' like the infraction system, naturally using the infraction system would put marks against them.

Indeed, the email a mod option is always available, which i've used before.

@Freefaller: I know people do this off their own backs, as I said this earlier, and what the MOD's do generally, is good from my point of view

Whose fault is that....if someone wants to know then email the moderators. I have in the past.

Most of the time it is obvious why a thread was closed anyway.

There's entirely.
But a few seconds could clear up a lot of these threads and the many posts within threads asking why things happen. I think it would cut down on the work mods have to do and reinforce and remind people of the rules.

I doubt people would take note or think it applies to them...

I shall endeavour to write a comment when closing a thread more often, I tend to when I close threads, but I don't close them often. I tend to move them to quarantine or delete posts and try and leave the thread open if I can.

The FAQ need updating anyway, but I can understand why Dons may not have the time to comment on every thread they close.....it may only seem like a few extra seconds, but I can imagine that a few added seconds soon adds up....

oh I agree, I just think it would help, becuase people don't know and don't read FAQ, and such threads come up often.

People don't read FAQ,but they do read comments when posts/threads are deleted so reminding people of the rules.

It would be nice if you could put in yellow writing the reason why you close threads instead of leaving people like me baffled.
For instance the 'Hospital These Days' thread, I haven't got a clue why you closed that and Groen had actually made a good point with his last post.
There was nothing offensive in there and people giving great accounts of how they were treated.

The 'Big Man' thread!!
Once again the thread didn't need moderating because people were behaving themselves and then suddenly it's gone.
A nice reason why in yellow writing would have been nice.

Just a thought.

Oh and I already know this will be closed but I do know the reason why.
(Whining cry baby thread)

I agree and i know i'm not by far the only one who thinks this. It's now getting to the point where it's a joke. Some mods need moderating to be frank. If they become little nazi's they should get the boot.

Throwing Nazi references around is perhaps a bit much.

It's a good point and if practical I agree.

The email system is rubbish. The last 2 times I've tried to contact a mod, they either don't respond or they forget. In fact no name was left on my last edited post, so I didn't even know who to contact.

I've said it before, this forum needs a customer service style section but for forum matters, where only the mods and OP can see the thread.

Tell me, any little nazi's in place at the moment?

To be fair if they were as bad as some of the people in this thread are making out. They would have locked and deleted this thread and banned or suspended half the posters.

For a start the joker who gave me the last holiday, 2 weeks??

He was chicken enough not to even post a message to me about it, not leaving me a name to get back to, which indicates to me that what he did he knew was in the wrong.

I have never had an issue, whenever I have emailed a Mod or Admin they have replied in good time.
