What film did you watch last night?

Moneyball

Brad Pitt's other serious film of the year I guess (Tree Of Life being the first). Was very good actually, for a film just based on Baseball it was quite gripping.

Was Contagion any good?

I thought it was okay - if a bit long winded. I must admit it was good to see Matt Damon in a non kick a$$ lead type role where he's portraying a simple member of "Joe Public". Laurence Fishburne's portrayal as the lead scientist type chappie (with comical porn star tasche) comes across as fairly mediocre (imo) despite his unseen attachment to Kate Winsletts (also) lead scientist character.

All in all I'd still recommend this simply down to the portrayal of how a contagious virus "might" spread and what steps the various governments of the various countries in the world would take in order to maintain discipline and ascertain in what order a vaccine should be given.

Walk the Line - 7/10

It would have gotten 8/10 if it had a bit more to the story.

This film will only really appeal to Cash fans imo, it has a lot of cash music but it doesn't do his whole life. This film was made after his death, yet didn't capture his american recordings and in fact didn't even capture his at san quentin part (which was his only living number 1 album). I can in a way understand them leaving out the newer bits, but including at san quentin, a duo of johnny cash and june carter cash would have been nice knowing they were married and would be for th enext 38 years or whatever.

Either way, Reese Wetherspoons was surprisingly good as June and the bloke was pretty good as Cash. Worthwhile flick.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I lost interest. My OH enjoyed it (he's got a bit of a thing about monkeys - not in that way  ) - he said it could have been improved by having more monkeys :D. Didn't find the storyline very interesting to be honest. 6/10

Tried watching Blu ray of James Bond : Casino Royale but the damned thing kept skipping frames despite only having been played once before, not a mark on the disc either. Tried it on 2 different players, PS3 and HTPC.

Happy feet. 2/10.

Was actually looking forward to this. Somehow I've managed to not see it in 5 years and having recently heard a lot of good things about it I decided to give it a go.

I was sitting there with my lego thinking "wtf?" the first half of the film was song while they tried to introduce poorly thought out characters and establish an emotional connection with the viewer. If anything, I think I ended up hating that dancing penguin more than the angry scottish penguin. The whole story happened in the last 20 minutes and the songs were just re-hashed pop songs. Wish I'd watched Elf instead.

Edit: forgot to add: the reason I gave it a 2 is because it looked good in 1080p, at least.
