Who's got Virgin Media's TiVo?

I've had the Tivo for 1 month now and absolutely hate the damn thing.

For a start it won't even detect my Panny 50" as supporting 1080p

To be honest I cannot be bothered typing out everything that's bad about the box but everything that can be bad, is bad.

I'm calling Virgin tomorrow, they can have it back.

the tivo box doesnt output 1080p.

Is that the TV on Demand that says it's unavailable 50% of the time?

Mine been fine. Iplayer has been a shambles since the last update though, but virgin know that and they are working to fix it. There are more details on the virgin forums.

Well that's what I thought, I didn't think anyone broadcast in 1080p. The engineer who fitted it said there should be an update any day now to enable this feature as it wasn't working with Pannasonic plasma's but was working with other TV's. This was last month, he said if the update didn't enable it to work within 7 days to call Virgin and as kthem what is going on.

The box seems to think it can output 1080p.

they may well roll out an update and change it - the hardware is apparently capable. but there is little reason to do so - nothing is broadcast in 1080p and for those who care about 1080p, chances are they already have something that is far more capable of up scaling and deinterlacing than the tivo box is (ie, a panasonic display or a half decent av amp). Infact this is a problem that I think is far more of an issue than being able to output 1080p - the SD out is still below par thanks to the deinterlacing issues.

We have had ours for about 6 months now. Working for VM I have had pretty much every box we have had out over the years on the staff account. The menu can be a bit slow but it is nowhere near as bad as the old SA boxes.

I hate how we have bundled the basic remote with it. It would be nice to have the slide remote or even the glow remote over the basic one.

The only thing i hate about tivo is when looking through the tv guide, you can't go page up / down like you can with the V+, which makes looking for something to watch a pain in the back side.

Of course you can. When in the TV guide just use the channel up/down button and this goes by page. It certainly does for me.

We have had it for about a month. Music on Demand sucks for searching as you have to manually go through the lists.

Apart from that its a great improvement over V+. On my Sammy LED backlit TV the SD picture is mostly a lot better. Kids channels seem to suffer though.

He lied to you mate simple as that.

They don't output 1080p but as people have already said there is no need

I've had my tivo installed about 4 months now and I'm loving it, I have nothing to compare it too as I got the sky tv removed many moons ago and also the virgin analogue was the only other option which I still didn't use.

I've always used iplayers for all my watching or download tv shows from America weather it be legal or not.

I'm super impressed with the tivo box, I do share all the above criticism about the menu side of things, not necessarily the main menu but the record menu can be slow but it doesn't get to me at all.

On-demand is amazing, I remember using this year's ago when I lived in belfast and thought I can't wait for this to be available where I live. Father ted at the flick of a button along with series links to all my favourite shows such as futurama.

My only problem is my father is a pensioner and doesn't understand how to work most things on the box, and to top it off he constantly deletes my shows before I get to watch them, even tho he records nothing lmao old people and technology don't mix most of the time.

From what I've read I can get another 500gb tivo box installed for 50 quid and this will use the XL package we already have plus an extra £4 quid per month. Gonna get this installed after the new year.

So far so good, well done vm. Also their courtesy calls regarding how we liked the box was very nice.

You can still watch what he has deleted, just look in the recently deleted folder and you can undelete it

Well i'm getting more problems.

The box downstairs is fine, however the bedroom tivo since the update has had constant problems of either crashing/being unresponsive which has caused us having to turn the box of at the plug and then have to wait 5 minutes for it to reload.

Probably happens at least once a week at the moment.
Along with the annoying error of "No HDMI signal" dispite it being connected via HDMI and showing correctly. Luckily changing channel gets rid of that but its still very irritating.

So just got my tivo installed today. The engineers made a right mess of the install and i'll probably be redoing half the cabling - lazy tards left rubbish everywhere also. Virgin will be getting a strongly worded letter with pics and i expect at least a month free....

Anyway from what i can tell i've also been supplied with a V+ remote rather than a Tivo one - i assume this is an error? It has a V+ button on it which does nothing and doesn't have the thumbs up and down buttons. The pause button doesn't work either.

The actual box seems ok - the on demand offerings are underwhelming from what i can see although i am only on the M+ package so not expecting much.
