'Gay' as a derogatory term, acceptable or not?

Of course it is OK to call something gay.

People decide whether to be gay i.e. they are not born ' a gay'. I am not argueing that they can help liking men, I am saying that they choose to act on those feelings.

OP: You are a batty boy.

I use faggot a lot too. Faggotry of the highest order generally.

Doesn't mean I hate fags, or feel anything towards them any different to any other stranger.

I actually like fags, because they really, really bother the Westboro Baptist Church, and that can only be a good thing.

I know the word 'fag' gets thrown around our group of friends often, we aint out to offend anyone but each other. (if you saw some of the floral shirts i wear then you guys would have a few choice words too)
The term 'gay' well its just habit to call any minor annoyance 'gay' which i picked up from the ex. Nothing offensive at all, yes its a misuse of the word but every one knows when used in the right context what you mean.
Example been say someone telling you tickets have sold out and you reply with "well thats gay!" nothing offensive at all about that!

So at what point in time did you decide to be heterosexual? People are born gay, wish people would actually realise this.

I can't see how the word faggot would be insulting. How can it be insulting to be referred to as what they are. If i am football player and somone calls me a football player, id say, you are correct. If i liked men and someone called me a gay or fag i would say you are correct. Not sure where the offensive part comes from.

I think it's totally unacceptable, extremely childish and rather pathetic. It not only shows your ignorance, but also displays a total lack of knowledge of the English language and I question the intelligence of those who feel the need to use it.

Does it? Words get repurposed all the time, as I'm sure you're aware 'gay' was in the first place.

It's not like most people say it with any malice towards actual gay people.

Yes, they are born gay. You're still gay whether you act on it or not, it's a preference.

You're ignorant.

It's not offensive because you actually are.

Are you calling me a gay?

haha

No, he's calling you ignorant. Which is true so by your logic you can't be offended.

Also, based on that last post (and so many others) you're an idiot. But you can't be offended ;)

Because its used as a pejorative, like calling an indian person a ****.

Do you get it yet?

I'm also childish and call things/people gay, sorry :( :p

I've always called my mates gay, doesn't mean they like ****, just means they're being stupid, nothing to do with being homosexual.

Sometimes, some people can just be "gay"

FYI Fags are cigerettes, only Americans call gay people fags

I use it all the time, gay used to mean happy, then it meant homo, now it means something else, the meaning of words can change and often relates in no way to the previous meanings.

For some reference my gay friends take no issue in using 'gay' as an insult.
