*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I enjoy the game, but whether i'll carry on playing after 50 is purely dependent on the endgame raids / PvP. At the moment, flashpoints don't really feel like anything special. In WoW (sorry), you had to travel to a specific location / world to enter into the instance, which felt special in itself. With TOR, you go into 1 room where the majority of flashpoints are located.

It doesn't feel big / special etc, whatever you want to call it. Doing MC / Onyxia in vanilla WoW felt awesome, a big achievement when downing bosses for the first time.

I'm only 22, but if the endgame is anything similar to the current flashpoints, i.e. the way it's setup, I probably won't be playing for very long.

*shrugs*

I don't see the fuss myself.

It fits my idea of an entertaining game and if I don't whack the spacebar too much in a desperate attempt to power level and thus miss much of the point of the game, I can get a decent storyline too.

Came in expecting and demanding nothing when I entered the beta.

Pleasantly surprised. I'll likely sign up for 6 months at least.

I'm not surprised there are those who came in looking for something and didn't find it but I'd rather look for amusement with an open mind rather than expect a game I'd left to be in the game I was entering.

I really enjoy following the story lines. Its pretty much the only game where I havent skipped cinematics. This is sometimes to the annoyance of people who take a hammer to the space bar during flashpoints but I dont care.

Im taking my time levelling this as well. Some guildies are smashing through it, but Im happy just chillaxing :)

And I compared it to swg and despite being 10 years older was about 10 years ahead in most areas. Other than story.

It all seems story based, which gets a little dull and end up hitting space bar constantly.

I haven't hit the spacebar once :p

I like the story, the usual MMO grind has been hidden incredibly well.

The only time i hit the spacebar is when there is alien dialogue which seems to take forever to move to the next screen. Why would anyone want to skip the story? I wouldn't play the game just for the combat. Maybe thats why other mmo's have never interested me I suppose.

Agreed, I think the story is one of the things that has me so engrossed at the moment. Can't wait to play alts. The great thing is, the group content is a lot of fun (especially the flashpoints), but it isn't even essential - so you can pretty much do your own thing, which I like :)

There are definitely areas that need more work, but it is a good game as it stands now, and is also in much better shape than most MMOs at this stage of release.

+1 on all that. I'm very impressed with the launch. Only people who had an early start suffered, which kinda cheered me up cause I didnt get it till release :p The artwork is great, the vista impressive, the animation and voice acting also impressive. I keep finding cool new stuff like your chars head and eyes follow whoever you're targetting.

I liked the story for the first 20 or so hours. After that it's sucks. There's nothing new to the story line. It's very similar and repetitive.
We've been attacked go kill them, ok yawn yawn.

All I really wanted was rebuild vs imperial fights for land grabbing and to play out the massive war. But seems that it's all story line with no content.

I would disagree its in a better shap,it's like a single player, when you get to the end that's it, what is there to do once you reach level 50. The fact people have already reached level 50 shows how short the game is.

The games just a single player to me. I've done about 5 flashpoints, 3 pvps. That's the only "Multiplayer" or Massive content. It's just single player and boring repetitive quests, kill him, kill the boss, collect 10 of these, destroy 10 of these. It's single player focused, no MMO content for me here. Dissapointed.

people have already done all the endgame content and the guild im in were downing world bosses like they were heroic mobs...

If you don't like it - don't play. Nobody has a gun to your head forcing you to play.

You can voice your disappointments but continually replying to people who like the game stating they are 'wrong' is just stupid.

All games of this nature will get repetitive, it's fairly difficult for them not to. However, its fate will be decided by content patches and the players you surround yourself with - just like WoW.

They've sunk a lot of money, time and effort into this so I'm expecting fairly decent content updates.

If you think it will be dead in 30 days, then I just have to laugh. :D

Serious? You've kinda put me off the idea of playing now. I wanted to get 50, build up gear and attempt bosses. Not kill them first time and be done with it.

I play at odd hours on EU and I have missed every single flashpoint except esseles, because I couldn't find a group. I didn't want to wait around in the flashpoint area in the hopes that I'd form a group in /1; instead, I consoled myself to the fact that I'd rather miss the flashpoint opportunity and actually play the game - not idle around for an unknown amount of time.

They really, really need a LFD tool. I think they are working on one? You can argue that it would destroy server community(?) but the flashpoints are all basically in one hangar area of the Fleet anyway.

We at least need a server based LFD.

Agreed, if you don't like it then go play another game.
As for updates and new content & game tweak/fixes nobody knows what is going to be added to the game so we will just have to wait and find out.

The biggest thing i loved in beta was the old storyline and visual+audio thoughout the game

I mean seriously very impressed with flashpoints, even basic ones like black talon.

The vioce overs and such really made the game no dout.....without it this is just another boring MMO :)

I'm honestly wondering what the people saying it's not MMO enough are actually wanting? Only time i've ever really heard that complaint used against a game was STO and that was pretty much because there was (and really still isn't) any reason to ever interact with another player on there.

ToR on the other hand has plenty of group content and on the lower level planets (as you'd expect for a week old game) the population seems quite healthy.

As for the whole argument about wether it has to compete with vanilla WoW or current WoW, just remember current WoW has had almost (if not more) than 10 years worth of development time and resources ploughed into it. ToR has had what? 2-3 years?
Bioware probably has a huge list of bells and whistles features from modern WoW that they want to implement but it's either delay them and focus on the game's core or delay the game just to add them.
Of course like most businesses they'll go with the first option so they can start paying the bills.

Anyhoo, it's a decent game. Like all others it has flaws but the first 2-6 months of its life will determine how it turns out. Can't see it failing like WAR though, that game pretty much went on life support right away. Only P2P MMO i know thats had ONE content patch (the land of the dead zone). Theres also the fact Star Wars is just so much more popular and well known than Warhammer.
