*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Skyrim is not a "single player MMO" it's a single player RPG.

I have to agree with the sentiments that it doesn't feel like an MMO because I'm not really running into many other people. It is early days though and to be fair I am really enjoying it so I'm not worried :)

I am curious as to what servers people are on where they are saying they aren't running into people. I don't seem to have an issue at the moment finding other people (level 30). There always seems to be people running around when I am questing.

may aswell scrap thias forum then as we arent allowed to talk about games unless where kissing biowares arse

It's a discussion, people are allowed to say they do or don't like the game but at the same time shouldn't get in a hissy fit when people don't agree with their views :p

its robbi having a hissyfit, i suspect hes never played any other mmo. swtor is missing what makes them an mmo

I probably exaggerated, I have seen a few people around while out and about questing. Not sure how many people I was expecting to see really :p. Had no problem getting a group for the first flash point so like I said for now I'm happy and enjoying the game :)

I'd argue you both are but never mind :p

I expected Hundreds like you get on other MMOs.
I'm on the busiest server and you get 50-100 typically on per planet.
You will see one or two running around, but it's no where near other mmo standards. And often do quests without seeing others. Although did one yesterday at the same time as one other player.

Cantinas are empty, used to get 50+ in them dancing and giving doctor buffs and stuff in swg.

You will always find people because general chat covers all instances not just your own. I agree with hardly ever seeing people, you cross paths with a few but unless I'm grouping with someone I will rarely see people for long.

I mut admit it hasn't grabbed me that much. I just loaded the game up with an intention to play it some but it crashed to desktop, hence why I'm posting here now.

I'm level 28 Commando - so I may not have the vast experience some of you have, but here are my concerns.

Player base:
It sold 1 million copies someone mentioned. I would estimate <600,000 people to continue their subscription come payment time.
Not sure how many people will purchase the game over the next few months.

If the game cost >£100m and game sales only generated £40m (40 x 1,000,000) and only 500,000 people are going to pay £9 a month to play it I think it may struggle financially to continue development unless EA really want it to succeed.

PvP:
The level 10-50 thing is pretty retarded, level 50's will always rape a level 10.

So many times I have pressed (keyboard) my abilities for my character to stand there and not fire anything off.

Crowd Control - it gets a bit frustrating to not be able to do anything most of the time - although this is probably down to Republic sucking (the faction I am on) and Imperial just owning about 90% of the time.

Random battlegrounds - why can't I choose my favourite? Imagine the outcry if Flashpoints were random dependant on level.

World environment:
I must agree with people that have mentioned how empty it all seems.
In WoW if you went to the AH there would be 10's of people just standing there browsing. Your lucky if there is someone standign next to you at the kiosk in SWTOR.

I would also agree you barely ever see your own faction whilst questing, let alone the other side (I'm on a PvP server).

Other:
The story was good while I played in the beta weekend - after getting to level 10 or so I just space bar everything and choose the top response and light/dark as I see fit.

I hope it does succeed, but I can't see myself continuing to subscribe unless gameplay is more fluid.
WoW definately has nothing to worry about.

Whilst this is true it only serves as a comparison in that they're both Star Wars games.

Swg was sandbox and had professions like musician and dancer who needed cantinas to do their thing and people went there for the buffs, you also had battle fatigue so others needed the musicians and dancers to clear it.

Swtor isn't sandbox, its much closer to WoW than it is to Swg so to criticise it based on cantinas would be like saying WoW is bad because all the inns are empty which are just scenery/quest locations/place to gain rested xp as are cantinas in Swtor. Though I'm sure RP servers will make use of them in some way.

Not saying that not seeing people is/isn't a valid complaint just that this isn't a good comparison.

I like the game. I just think it feels like an RPG with an online server (that isn't densely populated) almost stuck on the side. My main gripe (among many) is that the game feels empty and lifeless, I'm playing a single player game with occasional help.

I don't think the argument that "If you don't like it don't play it" stands up either :p

The game isn't without fault, it has many faults, I hope that they can sort out the issues and I intend to stick with it for a while to see how it pans out :)

World of Warcraft is still a superior online experience :)
