** Official World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Thread **

I know what you mean No1newts. I mean I have really been getting into swtor and really enjoying it also.

It just annoys me that my guild has gone from Vanilla as one of the strongest guilds on our server to TBC being the most progressed 25, to wotlk to being one of the ONLY 25 man guilds on our server, to cata now the only 25man guild on our server and always progressing (hardcore) for server firsts. Cata I think was quite the nail in the coffin for most of our long surviving members because they made server firsts avaliable to 10man runs which imo are so much easier than the 25man counterpart. So naturally the other hardcore guilds on our server that are 10mans were progressing at a quicker pace than we were and as such have not had a single server first this expansion. We have had all the first 25man server firsts because we are the only 25man guild :p but its pretty lame because its not like you get an achievement for it.

The worse thing is because we have such a large guild it would be extremely hard to say right we are going to do 10mans now because splitting the raid team up would be very difficult imo without it looking like we have made an A team and B team. Plus there are quite a few players that are only interested in 25man raiding not 10.

But still I will take it as it comes I'm enjoying swtor and still enjoying bits of WoW. Time will tell if my guild folds or manages to progress through the hard time.

its interesting to see that only here alone between the last few posts theres 2 well established guilds who are now suffering due to the changes since cata.

For me the 10/25man issue was always gonna see more guilds dropping to 10mans simply because they were much easier to organise and drop the same loot (only in fewer quantities)

Before we even moved realm we had discussed going pure 10mans with a team of our best raiders and say fek the rest, but in the end we said we would stick with our roots and move realm to have a go at maintaining 25mans :)

I fully understand blizzard's reasoning behind making the game more accessible but their falling userbase seems to be more a reaction to the game becoming more accessible.

I even found it hilarious to read conspiracy theories about the korean guild KIN getting the HC world first for 25man madness. People saying that the LFR exploits were well known and blizz let the main guilds exploit it knowing they would ban em later lol.

Also how their big push is for the asian markets now hence a korean guild getting world first, never have i heard more BS over a tier than this one.

For what its worth i thought cataclysm brough my favourate raid encounters since Sindragossa and Flame Leviathan, BWD and BOT i loved and the first time we killed NEF on 25man pre nerfs was one of the best feelings ive had in game.

DS seems a bit silly if im honest, fights seem to be either pure LOL (Morchok) or buggy (Hagara) and Spine seems like a cutscene its over that quick

the whole Dragon Soul raid is a bit of a let down, the final encounter itself does not really feel like your actually fighting a massive end of expansion boss, it just feels like a lame add fight (also why has deathwing got so many tentacles!?!?).
I will agree with what everybody else is saying, the game feels like it has got easier over time, I raided pretty regularly in vanilla, TBC and WOTLK and know others who have the same opinion.

.

My guild was server 1-2 during vanilla and TBC (vanilla on shadowmoon, TBC on dragonmaw as had to changge server for the Russians :p) and the guild disanded in Wrath due to them making them game so easy.

We all looked at the changes and the Vice guild leader, mellee dps leader and tank leader all left the game due to changes. Our second tier of class officers lost similar numbers and again similar numbers in the raid team. Out of those of us who stayed (I was one) we pretty much all went casual and the few who wanted to still play at a higher level left to the other good guild on the server.

We went down a little earlier than most but the simplification and dumbing down killed it for us as we wanted a challenge.

Out of all of the core raiding team and officers (about 20 who were always there) there are now only 2 of us still playing wow at all. Me very casually through LFR/LFG to see content and out old healing officer is still a keen raider in a good guild.

Really sad to see but I can see why Blizz done it (the money) and I will just enjoy it for what it is now and just miss those good days :( buth ave the happy memories and some good IRL friends from it at least!

Even Tom Cruise is getting tired of wow

Meh, Blizzard sent me that e-mail thing to try 4.3 but my account was hacked and I lost all my raiding/pvp gear from the first raids of Cataclysm, I know I would get them replaced quick but not even gonnna bother since they couldn't help me have the items restored.

I love Warcraft. I think it is one of the best games ever made and has changed so much in the market. Unfortunatly as time goes on they need ideas to keep it fresh and I've found the majority of them suck. For me Vanilla will always be the best. The world was massive, yet you could still bump in to people and do world PVP. Now there are just so many expansions and places to go there is just no need for some of them. I'm actually a bit sad that some of the "older" content no longer gets used.

I think over the next year or two the numbers will start to decline. I feel that the game is just too big. You have main cities like Darnasus that were hardly used in Vanilla and the last time I played I seen two people there. Just feels a bit gimmicky now, lost a bit of its appeal and glow.

I'll still play the new expansion and ding to whatever they put the top level to but does anyone else think that it's just not the same? I mean I can still remember first logging in with my very first character and pratting around darnasus, seeing someone with a mount and about peeing my pants. I think the sense of achievement has been nearly eroded from the expansions.

The main problem is that cross realm everything has made community non-existant outside of guilds. You used to know everyone on the server.

Just wondering but how long have you played it for?:P And how much did you play it?

Agree, i kinda think the cross-realm dungeons, and even dungeon finder has kind of ruined WoW for me atleast, I miss having to ask in trade chat for a tank for a hc, now if you ask for a tank you need to pay 100g for him to join you on my server :/

Absolutley. While it's made things easier for people to just pick up and play there is no reason to get to know people anymore. One of the things I liked about WoW was the fact that when I first started I would quest with people in the lower areas, make guilds, then start to raid etc. But in doing so you would meet people on the server. Other guilds, even people from Horde etc but now it's just two clicks and sitting picking your nose for 5 minutes.

It annoyed me so much because the starting areas were always busy and then there was a gap between 30-60(70)(80) etc. There was no incentive to come back to the mainland one you had dinged past it. The thing that annoys me most about WoW is that they have this vast, awesome landscape and yet 80% of it isn't used. I always thought would have been an extension of Heroes from WC3 (anyone remember the awesomeness of that?) but I feel that the world has just outgrown itself for the sake of it.

I have played it since launch. Logged in total something like 350/400 days on all my characters the last time I checked. Only really checked Cata out because I love questing more than raiding and I'd give Blizz the £20 because they've deserved it. The quests are still fantastic but once you've dinged 80 and got the achievements for all the zones all you can really do is either re-roll or do dailies.

Does anyone play on Ravencrest alliance? I just moved there because I know it's got a decent population but the only guild I've managed to find so far is a crap lvl25 levelling guild that doesn't even do anything.

I've been playing horde side on shattered hand since vanilla and I'm a decent player. I just got fed up on that server and fancied a new start, it maybe wasn't the best idea as it turns out now. There may be another server transfer in my future.

I agree with this.

The cross-server stuff was a good addition in terms of convenience, but the cost was a loss of server community. More than this, the way people act in cross-server groups once they realise there'll never see the other players again is the worst I've ever seen in all my years of multiplayer gaming.

It really does feel like WoW has peaked now, and so too has the MMORPG genre.

Agree with this and the op. The Dungeon Finder also takes away so much community from the game and also the fact that you don't have to walk/fly to the instance and then have a fight with the other faction to get in is a real shame.. I'm sure those of you who played vanilla on a PvP server can remember the epic battles in blackrock mountain .

Sub ran out on the 25th, Cancelled on the 25th, they charged me anyway >.>

Goddamnit means Im gonna have to phone em, SWTOR will be eating my time for a while yet :p

Absolutley. I can remember world pvp-ing when it happened naturally. The massive fights at Tauren Mill, flying all the way to ZG just to walk in to a massive brawl. I honestly cannot remember the last time I seen a "*** is Under Attack" What's the point of introducing world bosses when all people (me) wants to do is quest and world pvp. There was nothing better than to do a quest, see that somewhere or someone was under attack and going across with 2 or 3 mates and having a nice battle. But now the game has expanded so much into so many areas I think it's hard to cover all the bases with what I want from the game.

I loved going to blackrock mountain and earning my first full T1 set. I had a fantastic sense of achievement and worth because I knew that I'd worked for it and it would be worth something for a while. Now I see all the new gear and honestly think "What's the point" when it'll get one upped in a few months.

I personally think WoW need to bite the bullet and purge around 60% of the junk from this game and head back to Vanilla. Or just release Vanilla only servers. I just think the game was simpler, more engaging and more fun than what it is now. I seen someone post something in gchat when we were talking about it before my sub stopped.

"WoW is like a grand tree, it needs to be pruned, cut back and cared for. Otherwise one day you'll go back and it'll be overgrown, untidy and dead"

Cross-server is a great idea for the casual gamer. But I hate it for the fact it has killed all local community outside of the guild chat. I personally think it would have been better if the took 3/4 servers and combined them in to one. Same land, more peope.
