Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB v OCZ Vertex 3 120GB

6 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors (SATAII0, SATAII1, SATAII2, SATAII3, SATAII4, SATAII5) supporting up to 6 SATA 3Gb/s devices

So SATA 3gb/s That's (mis-)named as SATA 2

So I need a SATA 3 addon card of some sort?

Looks like it as you're P45 motherboard doesn't have native SATA-III.

Plus I'm not sure on how compatibility would be as well on the drive being used as a BOOT drive as I've not used Addon SATA cards, perhaps those with RAID cards could be of more help here?

Would I be better off just getting another Velociraptor and going RAID 0?

SSD can come in a year or 2 when I upgrade my motherboard, memory and processor

This thread actually has quite a few benchmarks in it

Although it's worth noting that the CrystalDiskMark test was done with the data set to something that will compress as good as possible and so will return the best possible numbers for the drives that use compression. If all the data you'll be writing to the drive is incredibly compressible then you will likely see figures close to what ATTO displays. If not (say Windows is installed on it for example) then you'll likely see reduced write speeds. However I think AS SSD is probably a little bit the other way in that the data might be less compressible than 'real' data (but it's probably random, so who knows).

The other thing to bear in mind is, how often will you be writing to to the SSD (compared to how often you read from it) and what will you be writing to it from? If the thing your getting the data from doesn't have a read speed of 500MB/s how can you hope to write at that speed?

I have a GA-EX58-UD4P with no Sata III on board so bought one of these...

They provide 5Gbps not the 6 for Sata III supported boards but it is still damn fast, I went from 2 WD 7200 in a RAID 0 to one Corsair Force 3 and the speed increase was incredible.

Thanks. Why do they only support 5Gbps instead of 6...

'With full support for SATA 3.0 hard drives and data transfer speeds of up to 6 Gbps,'

Looking at results around the web, I would probably go with the Crucial M4

Not 100% sure, but I can tell you when it boots it says in the configuration screen that it only supports 5Gbps in this mode.

Oh and I forgot to say mine is being used as the boot device for Windows 7 and it works perfectly.
