Attention Samsung HDD owners!!!

Noticed this a while ago, though I've not had any problems with any of my HDD's, touch wood!

Have had Hitachi's, Samsung's, Seagates and Western Digitals!

IIRC, I did complete a RMA for my sister to WD, it seemed to be that the drive got sent off to one of the Airports, can't remember which, probably for shipment to get replaced, though turnaround was a week!

Just wondering where Rexo will be in all of this? They haven't announced any changes in the RMA policy on Samsung hdds as far as i can see, maybe they will also be doing Seagates as well.. would be great for RMA turnaround.

Just checked a few and they show up fine accepting the serial number.

HTH

Checked some Samsung hdds on the 22nd i think so its been working a while now.

I tried checking on the 15th and couldn't. Also couldn't find anywhere on the seagate site to say where to check for samsung drives until now.

Would be good if Rexo stay as the rma provider, I think I rma'ed a drive with them and it was pretty swift.

Got 4x 2TB Samsung F4s and 4x 2TB Seagate Barracuda Greens. Both serving me very well, bought which ever was cheapest at the time. As long as the RMA transfers I'm not that fussed, both companies make good drives.

I just hope Seagate carrys on production of the F3 and F4's and just rebrand them.

Indeed, I think the F3's and the F4's are some of the best drives ever made at the price they were pre-floods. I have a 1TB F3 in my PC and a 2TB F4 in my HTPC, both have been faultless :)

Seagate warranty you have to send your drive back to Holland so looks like it will be Western Digital for for me from now on simply because their RMA is UK based ...

That's incorrect. I RMA'd a Seagate drive to Coventry on the 16th December:

Return Product Mailing Location
UPS Coventry
SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY
C/O UPS-SCS UK LTD
Cross Point Business Park
Coventry
CV2 2SY
United Kingdom

It was received on the 19th and a replacement shipped on the 22nd.

Sorry if somebody has already mentioned this but what about ocuk's warranty with these drives? I have 4 of them, all grey imports direct from ocuk who say they cover the warranty. Is this still the case?

I would say so yes. Since they were never covered in this country, your contract is still with OCuk, Seagate/Samsung would likely come up with 'out of area' messages when you use that serial.

He probably means the location of the RMA depot etc (what Country even!).. No idea sorry, haven't used Hitachi for a long while.

Does anyone know where Hitachi hard drive RMA have to be sent to?

I can't see it on their website.

If you need an RMA they send you an address label so I supose they don't need to publish the address.

Also WD have bought, or are buying, the Hitachi HDD business so things might change.

I couldn't see it either. I know you have 15 days to send it once the RMA process is started otherwise it's cancelled. I don't fancy posting outside of the UK due to costs and tracking the drive.

Thanks

I think they all do that ie they have two departments the Legal department who cover themselves from numpties who send drives poorly packaged bumping around etc and the Returns department who can use a bit of discrepancy if the 'incorrect' packaging is used but they can see its been well wrapped. The keyword in the quote above is "may" though and it makes sense they do this if they were any vaguer they would probably have alsorts of ridiculously packaged drives being sent back.

Seagate's is similar and I just sent it back in the original static bag firmly wrapped in a lot of bubble wrap and made sure there was no possible movement inside the box and had no problems getting a replacement.
