GAME - Gamestation, about to fold?

My mum got me skyrim on the pc from game, can't complain as it activated and I have the dvd version (try when I can to get boxed versions as its nice like the old days).

Do agree that mum's and parents are the only people to use game a lot

I think their days are numbered. I think theyre fully aware of it and have no plans to reduce their prices. They'll remain high until the day they go bust.

It used to be the case that they only made their real money at Christmas. I have to say I'm not liking the depth of their partnership with Microsoft.

I thought I could finally cash in some credit on Gamestation card with the Skyrim offer because the in-store prices are generally horrendous only for them to tell me there's no cash on the card. I followed the small print on the back of the card, but they still ripped me off.

Trading in my dodgy console to them was a pleasure.

The only reason I think Game/Gamestation's prices were quite good over Xmas was because they needed a way to actually get people to shop with them. If they had kept at their normal prices, they would have been in quite a dire situation.

I know lots of people shop with Amazon and can get all their Xmas shopping done there, I certainly did, as did many of my family. So they needed a way to tempt people to buy directly from them. However, as I'm sure many others spotted, the games which Game had discounted in their advent calendar were then matched by the other big retailers.

Unlike a lot of other people on here, I don't mind GAME at all. You can often get games there throughout the year that are near the same price of online stores and if you want to buy pre-owned, you can get them for similar prices too. You've also got the advantage on pre-owned games that you can check the disk for scratches, etc.

I like going out in the light too & not doing everything online! ;)

Give them a break, you'd soon be sad if all gaming stores closed down because you're too afraid to leave the comfort of your keyboard! :p

Going out? Crazy man! :p

Never bought anything from game this or last year. They are a joke and stupid over-priced, good example is I bought saints row 3 out of gamestation advertised at 19.99. Go along to game literally ROUND THE CORNER and it's 39.99. Just one instance though....

They have always been overpriced though. Always found gamestation to be pretty fair though.

The misses went to buy Mario Kart 7 from Game the other day as I'd been given a £10 gift card for Christmas. But was a bit miffed when it turned out they were pricing the game for £7 more in store than on their own website and wouldn't price match.

That's absolutely routine and by no means limited to Game. Loads and loads of businesses do this.

near the same price?

i checked some prices when i went in on boxing day and yes some of the games where double the price they are online on other retailers.

they are on average £15-20 more expensive than the cheapest online retailer.

i suggest you install "invisible hand" and use amazon more often.

Thank christ for this.

GAME and Gamestation have ruined the experience of purchasing games for me.

In a nearby town there was a small shop that sold any game that you requested, and you could also talk to the guy behind the counter about said games.

It's just like how the likes of Virgin Megastore killed all the record shop indies back in the day by undercutting them.

GAME has become too complacent and greedy IMHO !

I can't say I've ever had to request a shop get a game in to sell it to me, how long ago are you talking?

You can probably still talk to some of the staff in Game about games, but as I've said before in this thread, being able to talk to staff about games in a shop has never been a priority for me. Ever since the internet came along, we can read reviews online and by posting here on this forum, you've demonstrated that reading reviews from forum users is far more useful than the opinion of one salesperson behind a counter.

It's no different to how I wouldn't just wonder into Currys and ask them for a new TV without having done any research beforehand.

To be fair this is exactly what I saw in game when I went in there a few days ago. The staff were all talking about the games with the customers.
