If you buy 912's you'll go through them in no time as you'll be constantly spinning them whenever you try and put power down. I'm about to replace my tyres that are on the car at the minute and it's scarily easy to light them up even in 3rd gear...

As everybody else has said, save up some money and buy it the rubber it deserves. It'll thank you for it, and you'll be able to enjoy it more.

Conti Sport3 lasted less than 3 months on the front of mine.

Mine have lasted 12 months so far, at 1k per month, as I'm sure a few said in another thread you need to re-evaluate your driving style :p

And I've never even heard of 912's ever being mentioned in the OC, 452's, yes, but 912's, nooooo.

I'm getting some Goodyear F1 A2's in the new year to go on my new 19" wheels.

I put Vredestein Sessanta's all round on mine and it was a massive improvement on the conti sport contact 2's that were on it before. It was a couple of years ago but I paid £95 each, not sure what they cost now relative to the others. Great tyre in the dry and up there in the wet. Very stiff sidewalls which helps the ST out no end.

I drove one, was fast and cornered well, but not for me.

But someone please explain why you'd want to buy one? They do Evo MPG but they are not exactly Evo fast. Plenty of other FWD hatches with 200+ bhp that will do 30+ mpg.

As I've said, for filling up the tank every 200 miles I'd want a lot more pace than a typical hot hatch, or something very special.

Not sure I can make it any simpler than that?

Mine is comfortable, does 0-60 in 6 secs, 155+ top end, handles well, does not rattle your fillings out and makes a lovely noise. Downside is its expensive to run but at least it keeps the chavs out of them for a while :)

Fuel economy is the cars biggest downfall. On the upside, they're:

- Cheap to buy
- Look nice
- Comfortable for long journeys
- Handle well
- Engine has a nice spread of power, sounds great, doesn't need thrashed to go everywhere

Compared to the common alternatives (Golf GTI, A3 2.0T, Civic Type R, Clio 197 etc) it's a perfectly viable option.

Both my dad and my sister own Focus ST's

When the original CSC2's wore out on my Dad's he asked and I got him CSC3's, after all Ford fitted Conti's originally.

My sister sadly didn't ask my advice and fitted a set of Marangoni's (well, brother-in-law took it to Farmers).

Family!!!

Now they are coming down in price, my girl is in the market for one, the joys of not needing a car for commuting.

I know they are not a bad car, but for the MPG they return, I'd be wanting 250bhp + and not FWD with that sort of power. All of the other hot hatches listed are easily capable of getting at least 10 more MPG which works out as a lot of money saved.

For the price I would personally rather have an Evo VII or VIII.

You're concentrating on one specific downside. It's well known and owners will have considered this when making their purchase. 10 mpg more won't save much money until you start doing lots of miles. It's ~£650 difference between 25 and 35 mpg over 10k miles.

On the upside, they'll have saved thousands over some alternatives which will go a long way towards fuelling it.

A simple remap on these unleashes 260bhp [ dont forget this engine is basically a detuned Volvo T5] RS plugs, injectors, decat CAF all of which are pretty cheap and 300BHP is easy to get.

Have to agree about the fwd bit. Although the dif upgrade makes it more driver friendly, at 300bhp they are quite a handfull

I like them.
I'd be more than happy if I had an ST and I think the power they have is ample for a FWD car.
Can't you get them remapped to get a bit more mpg out of them without upping the power?
Standard maps are normally overly cautious on most cars.

Do they run on normal unleaded or super?

Times are hard so you bought a 2.5 litre turbo got hatch? Eh?

yeh a 20-24mpg sports hatchback thats going to guzzle fuel but cant afford £500 of tyres.

The power is very nice, ive so impressed with it I went on a long journey trip last night and only ending up putting a extra £5 in fuel compared to my diesel. but maybe because I ragged the arse of it wanting to get back after finishing at 1am in the morning lol

Ive spoke to one of my good friends who tunes cars for a living and he said he can remap them but you dont seem to notice any better on MPG just a lot more torque and BHP.
I am just going to leave it standard, I remapped my mondeo and ending up going through a clutch and a set of injectors so im not making the mistake again and to be honest I dont need too.

Went to my local tyre dealer today and they are charing £128 fitted for the Goodyear Eagle F1 ASSYM 2 so ill figure out what im doing next week after I get paid.
I am just taking it easy at the moment with the doublestars as they one of the worst tyres ever.

Oh you take the **** because I cant afford a set of tyres for £500 the car was cheap and had to pay deposit cash so ive spent all my money getting the car back to my house, I can worry about the tyres a week later
