*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

You said it yourself, arena matches. Contrived, safe, in a rut. PvP to me is open world PvP, guild groups fighting, dealing with adds, being taken off guard & overcoming odds.

Battlegrounds are a distraction, pvp-lite if you will.

That's certainly one view, and a good reason to choose a PvP server, but it isnt the core of PvP in SWTOR. The chances of finding open world PvP (need I mention instancing) are so remote that the VAST majority of PvP will be in the BG's. PvP rewards can realistically only be earned through the BGs. If you want to partake in PvP before a relatively high level, youre going to be doing it in BGs. I do agree, non-limited PvP encounters are fun, but I wont say much about my opinion of them happening in SWTOR for fear of once again derailing this thread.

if the pvp was similar in a none broken way to Warhammer Online then this would be sweet. Im sick of Huttball already and it seems pointless at lower levels to pvp.

Long shot, but anyone playing tonight mind giving me a hand (again) :o

Every boss I seem to fight tends to be overly powered regardless of my level

Tempted to get this as there has been a bit of a gaming void ever since I quit WoW. My pc is pretty poor just now though. I have looked up the system requirements and they seem pretty low around WoW standards but Im hearing its a lot more intensive than that?

I don't have it personally but my friend told me when he plays wow is gpu goes at around 70 degrees but when he plays swtor it goes up to 90.

My copy arrived this morning and I thought I'd have a 'quick' go. 8 hours later, I've just logged off to make some dinner. I'm very impressed. I'm level 7 and taking it slowly. Also, it's bloody gorgeous. Running it on Ultra with forced AA on my 6950 and it's very shiny. After reading quite a bit of criticism about the graphics I wasn't expecting that.

My expert review ;) lol

Yes, this is not an next gen MMO
Yes, its was made with an outdated graphics engine
Yes, it is a quest grinding game with no innovation
No, it is not a sandbox
Yes it was released before bugs were fixed. In Bioware's defense they are in this to make money and they needed to make the Christmas sales window.
Yes, it feels like a single player game.
Yes, this game is easy, it does cater to casuals (this is no real surprise)
Yes, there is no real endgame content, (dont rush your way to 50)
Yes, it is lacking Guild bank and other basic features of an MMO

Now we can focus on more of its positives.

Its a Star Wars game
You have lightsabers
You have a great single player story

I disagree after years of being on a WoW server where we were outnumbered 4-1 by horde and all the wannabe pro players avoided alliance. To find a server with a group of decent pvpers where we win more than lose makes me very happy. Plus I never stated how hard fought the games were.

It seems Republic is best during prime time, from what everyone else I've heard talks about, during the mid AM you get these certain few who like to constantly exploit a few things which is when I'm mostly on, then as the sun rises republic starts to get back up there.

But every time I pvp, it's the same people with me and against me for 4-5+ games, it sucks for us when we chain lose and it makes them leave when we chain win! :P

Also... had 14 people on a game once on just one team O-o

Took you 8hours to reach lvl 7 ;o?

Yes, this is not an next gen MMO - agree.
Yes, its was made with an outdated graphics engine - agree.
Yes, it is a quest grinding game with no innovation - disagree. Everything is strongly story driven with a purpose to it. Yes it is a grind, every MMO is, but it the best disguised most enjoyable grind and for once I actually enjoy it.
No, it is not a sandbox - agree.
Yes it was released before bugs were fixed. In Bioware's defense they are in this to make money and they needed to make the Christmas sales window. - agree, personally I think its a disgrace the state they released it in and the first "patch" was an even bigger disgrace but ho hum.
Yes, it feels like a single player game. - Disagree. If you want to play it like a single player game you certianly can, especially with certain classes. But if you want to see everything and do everything in game then it is by no stretch of the imagination a single player game. The instancing is something they need to sort and sort fast to open up the world get it to be more of an MMO though as it does feel VERY small scale at the mo.
Yes, this game is easy, it does cater to casuals (this is no real surprise) - Not at all. Play a faceroll class it might be easy but as a Jedi Sentinel its a hard slog a lot of the time and I have to plan pretty much every fight I have and be on the ball with interrupts or I go splat.
Yes, there is no real endgame content, (dont rush your way to 50) - agree.
Yes, it is lacking Guild bank and other basic features of an MMO - agree, a feature which really ****** me off.

Now we can focus on more of its positives.

Its a Star Wars game - agree :p
You have lightsabers - agree, though Jedi/Sith are stupidly weak compared to troopers and other classes who are cannon fodder in the films.
You have a great single player story - agree, the Jedi Knight story is fantastic.

Ultimately I like what they have released. I have cancelled my WoW sub to play out the Jedi Knight story and will probably play a few others.

WHen it comes to the crunch though it does not feel like an MMO as I expected it to be which is really disapointing. The amount of bugs and **** featurs they released on launch are scandalous and if it wasn't Star Wars it would be lucky to have a thousand players left.

I think it will do well and I will give it a chance but the state it was released in was a disgrace (despite me still liking it :p) and BW/EA really need to knuckle down and do some hard work or it could go the same way sa Rift/Aion/WAR and the rest unless they release some serious bug fixing and content addition patches over the next few month.

I just find Republic are constantly ****. Wish you could have full premades because even when we go part guild with the few PUG's the republic PUG's are depressingly bad.
