****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Odin will detect the phone when it's in Download mode, which is a mode that is independent of any ROM you're running anyway.

Did you not create a CWM backup of your phone before installing Cyanogen?

If not, WUMP WUMP!
(damn too much Archer recently... :p)

I can't remember, but it doesn't look like I have any backups.

How can I actually get something else installed? I'm confused as to why Odin and Kies can't detect the phone having installed CM7. I never had this issue before.

CM isn't 100% on the S2 yet still is it?

As I said, Odin will see the phone if you put the phone into download mode.

It was labelled as stable, until after i installed it and discovered it wasn't.

It's not going into download mode no matter what I've tried. Could it be to do with the kernel, or is that not loaded when going into download mode? I've seen a similar issue on Google with other people having installed different kernels. It would be good if I could just drop an update zip onto the sdcard and install with CWM, however I can't find what I'm looking for. Would be great if someone could find one for stock or T-Mobile.

I wouldn't agree with it being stable, I ran it for a good 3-4 weeks and had probably 5 or 6 freezes and had to take the battery out to reboot. Switched to CheckROM with ICS theme and couldn't be happier with it.

CM doesn't change the bootloader or modem so that's a bit weird! Can you not start download mode from within CM when holding the power button?

Quick question for the experts out there, I've recently turned on System Power saving on my SGS2 and now in the notification icons area at the top left of the screen I have two triangular icons made up of arrows - when I swipe down it shows "System Power Saving" and "Custom Power Saving" ongoing messages, but I can't clear them like I can all other messages. It's a tad annoying - any idea how I can remove them?

Cheers.

If you've enabled the power savings option then they cannot be removed when those modes are active.

You don't need those modes anyway, all they do is disable various things you'd normally manually disable anyway.

Any ideas why I can't install NDT MIUI? When I try to flash the zip, I get "E: Can't open /emmc/blah blah .zip (bad)
Installation aborted"

The checksum's match, and I've tried two different versions of CWM.

Just got a SGS2 deal and was wondering if there is a nice case for it I can get?

Also, any batter packs/chargers or XL size batteries worth getting?

The official extended battery of course.

What kind of cases do you like? There are many varying styles/types. I use the Walnutt Bumper case on mine, gives it a better grip and protection compared to other cases and doesn't collect dust around the bezel like other wrap cases as well.

Thanks for the battery advice. Does it last that much longer on normal use? Is it much thicker with it?

Regarding the case. I had a look at those Walnutt cases, can you get them from anywhere? Some of them look good. I am after a minimalistic case to be honest. THe bumper seems to wrap quite a lot of the phone.

Also, what should I do regarding Roms, locking, etc, when I get it?

Lots of bumpers available on eBay, I don't think Walnutt branded ones are there as they have to be bought from Korea and the site that did ship overseas doesn't list them any more. The Walnutt has a high quality feel to it, for just over £15 it should though. The ones on eBay are under a tenner but they should still do the job fine.

The extended battery is 1mm~ thicker and comes with a battery cover that makes the back completely flat. you get a few more hours of power out of it compared to the stock and the phone has a better feel in the hand too.

ROMs and stuff have already been mentioned above^^

What is the latest official UK unbranded version of the firmware? Looking at the list on the XDA forums here and struggling to find the correct one.

I'm basing my decision off what Kies is offering me: KK1. So I'm trying to find something around that version, but they either are country specific and not UK, or are under the 'frankenstein' firmware section.
