Assuming that the above SSDs were the same price (~£85), which would you recommend for a boot drive with a Z68/i5-2500K system (ie NOT used for HDD-cacheing, just for OS + a few progs/games)?

The Crucial M4 write speed is only 20% of the other drives - yet it does well in real-world benchmarks  I'm a bit of a Corsair fan, but the M4 seems the most stable/reliable (ie NOT Sandforce )

Each drive is "best" depending on different benchmarks, but 110 vs 495 is a major slowdown even if there are far more reads than writes.

Any advice?

The Force3 was recalled at launch and had its fair share of BSOD issues.

Generally speaking, the Samsung SSDs tend to be the most trouble free it seems.

I have the 120GB force 3 and its cracking! The new ones come with the updated firmware which has apparently sorted any bugs that there were on the original ones

Ive just gone for the 120GB Force3 on the basis that its £30 less than the M4 and isnt timebombing, ill update when it arrives :)

Everyone seems to recommend the M4 but after the whole "M4 Timebomb" discovery, it's not looking good at the moment.

How much better would you like it to look?

I don't understand your comment. A problem has been found and a fix has been identified and is being tested before release. Seems pretty spot on to me.

I'd take a random BSOD that doesn't affect users data and doesn't happen until after 5200 hours over having the drives controller fail and take the entire drive down which tends to happen with Sandforce drives.

True, I'm guessing it will be a little while yet before all SSD s are rock solid :) just keep mine as a boot drive for now just in case!
