Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

Had to quit 5 games yesterday due to people hacking. Strangely it wasn't even aimbotting, they were just killing everyone instantly wherever they were on the map. Got killed twice and the guy doing it wasn't even on the same part of the map?

By far the worst game I've played for hackers. :(

Yea, thats one of the most common hacks now. They've found a way to edit packets as they're client sided. Most common is a guy using knife to kill everyone on map. Someone posted a youtube link in here.

We live in a time of 'free music' , 'free movies', 'free games' where many people are happy do download, rip, trade etc. Battlefield 3 is quoted as being downloaded illegally 3.51 million times in the end of 2011.

Why would you expect the same population to be moral about earning achievements and playing fair? BF3's Achilles heel is the client side hit detection. You only need to look at the videos on youtube to see how effective the hacking is and how many options to look legit their are.

I can go on near any server and find people hacking, mountains is a good place to sneak round the back of a sniper and watch their behaviour. You can stand behind them and all is well as long as they are not center screen, e.g. in the cross hair but sight them and suddenly they are in a panic ... why are they relaxed when I stand there yet panic the moment I sight them... because the cheat shows a big banner across the top to say they are being aimed at.

If you play on any of the big servers their will be cheats... watch the kill cam, think about how hard it is to take down jets with AA gunfire yet some players can do it easily. Standard tank shells are tough to aim from a moving tank to a moving target.

It's up to individuals to believe what they like. For the record my KD is about 0.9 so I'm no the best of players as I work full time and have a family so I can't be in a game every waking hour.

I see some good players and plenty of cheaters.

So the client can tell the server if you've killed someone? Madness.

I'd love to know the logic behind trusting the client with anything beyond that which is absolutely necessary. Another side effect of consoles being the lead platform?

Everyone knew it was only a matter of time before this happened. We told dice it would in beta. The server is meant to validate kill packets with various logic routines, weapon, proximity etc.

It's exactly the same issue as on BF2 with the jeep/crate spam drop. That was client side as well.

A two man tank crew who`s second member does both the citv station, machinegun and repairs the tank is a pretty full on role.Try it sometimes you won`t be bored.
You can switch between the positions as and when you need too.

I would do that, but I usually have 2 or 3 friends with me. Also this type of game, some people have a bad tendency to steal seats or vehicles, usually the same players that can't figure out that an ammo box or healing box would be ideal. :p

BF3:

A Let down to BF2 vets.... I admit it here and now!

I wish time could stand still and people play BF2 forever, that way people would never have to upgrade and be happy with a great game!

I hate PC gaming... That is all good night!

goon you drunken Ape !

Knifing is a bit garbage, why cant it just be a simple press button, knife lunges out. No need for theese stupid animations.

Yeah in BF2 you needed skill to kill with the knife, you also needed to be skillful to get the achievement...expert knife badge needs *18 kills in a round*,no easy task, whats with all the lame unlocks anyhow? What happened to quality of quantity?

DICE's in house development team aint what they used to be,ah well have fun with it guys.

If you think up to 20% of people cheat I'd take a look at your own game, and see what you're doing wrong. That's ridiculous.

100,000 ish peak times 3000 bans as of now. 5 percent probably private hacks at a guess so id say very maximum about 10 percent .

not cod 4 yet :p

Bad maths. 3000 of total, not the online players. You guys greatly exaggerate the amount of hacking going on.

I was on a 64 player server earlier where 4 people were auto kick banned for multi hack in about 15 minutes, published in the server chat. Another hacker was doing mass death and killing us in tanks with a rifle from the other side of the map... This player wasn't auto kicked. There was some type of map vote plugin to kick a player but even though there were 12 votes to kick and no votes not to, they carried on so had to leave.

Smaller servers seem better so played on a 24 man for a while which seemed much better.

bad maths been part of pb admins for hmmm 10 years been involved in server for last 15 years . 8-10 percent is realistic whether you agree or not is your op.

its nowhere near 20 percent though.

this would have been pb streaming so i doubt it was 4 people on that server . and a lot of hacks pb just dosent pick up and rely on active admins . I have removed 2 hackers today from our server (metro) as pb just ignored them
