What film did you watch last night?

The Mechanic.

Usual Statham fare but a notch or 2 down from some of his other films imo such as The Transporter series which I really enjoyed. The Mechanic seemed to lack that tongue in cheek humour that his other films have, took itself a bit too seriously and suffered as a result.

I enjoy a good old 'turn the brain off' action flick as much as anyone and The Mechanic certainly delivered lots of action and clever set pieces but that's about all, even the dumbest action flicks usually have some characterisation and a reasonably entertaining plot, but The Mechanic fell well short here,
One minute Statham is being portrayed as a lean, mean killing machine who meticulously plans his kills down to an almost molecular detail, but then the next minute he's duped into killing an old friend/mentor with barely a questioning frown at the kill request.

Ok for the action sequences though, and the sound and video on blu ray were outstanding. Probably give it 5/10 for some well choreographed action set pieces, one fight in particular came across as quite brutal.

Righteous Kill

6/10. Yeah, great to see Al and Bob back on the screen together after Heat but the film just felt a bit slow and not quite as good as it could have been.

Genuinely didn't see the twist at the end coming but I was a bit tired and concentration was fleeting.:p

I watched Die Hard with a vengeance on Iplayer earlier. It's better then second one :)

6.5/10

Watched this as well last night. Never rated it before and thought the first two were classics but this is probably the third or forth time I've watched no. 3 and actually enjoyed it more. SLJ make the films for me. Now way near as good as the first two though and would agree 6.5 is about right.

3/10? Do me a lemon.

No joke, I'm sure many disagree and I know many critics love it. But for me I just didn't get what all the fuss was about. Yes the acting was good, but the story did nothing for me. It didn't hold my interest and I could have quite happily turned it off half way through if I'd had something better to do.

A Fistful of Dollars - Further to my post yesterday about Yojimbo and wanting to compare it with the unofficial remake (thanks Marklister). I have to say that I preferred this film, both are so close but I thought that Clint was perfect and liked the music. Yojimbo was obviously more original but it was based on a Western novel from the 20's called Red Harvest. I enjoyed both films and would recommend either. 4/5

WHAT?! YOU DIDN'T LIKE THOR?! GREAT ODIN'S RAVEN! Thor was epic! a lot better than the Hulk movies, but not as good as Iron Man

Maybe it gets better later on, but it just didn't grab us. After fifteen minutes neither of us cared about the characters.

If you're making a film like this out of what is, let's be honest, a less well known comic book, then you need to get people invested right away. We didn't find the characters or the situation interesting, so we didn't persist with it.
