1.2 Punto, £24 grand for insurance.

He wont recoup it and it IS a waste of money. He's 34 years old, there is no way that the extra year of NCB he is earning will be worth £240. The more NCB you earn the less marginal difference the extra years make.

Found out last week that our trainee IT Tech who is 17 and been driving for 6 months is paying a wedge for his insurance.

Driving his mums 1.4 focus as a named driver is costing him...

'How much are you paying, if you don't mind me asking'
'Seven'.
'That's not too bad'
'Grand'
''

He's obviously doing something very wrong but is adamant it's as cheap as he can get.

but you will never recoup that wasted money

oh wait it's only £200 a year

I'm 23 and will struggle to see a £200 reduction in my premium from the previous year, that's with an extra years NCB and an extra years experience.

Example:
February 2011 - 22yrs old, 5 years driving, 4 years NCB = £724
February 2012 - 23yrs old, 6 years driving, 5 years NCB = £604

a 34 year old will NEVER see benefit from insuring a car for £240 a year, there will be no savings made what so ever.

Just give up please

He's been doing it a couple of years though, presumably to avoid losing his already built up NCB?

£240 a year may well be worth it to avoid losing 15+ years of NCB you already have.

In this case it's not so much accruing the NCB and the benefit from an extra, more avoiding losing everything he does have through non use for three or four years.

also with Nickyyy post is that the information will change. Street parking will only be lower in certain area's, postcode is cross checked with parking. Mileage again will change when the rates are updated. So the information is only so accurate in "helping" the price.

best thing to do is enter your details as you need to be covered. if your going to pay a couple of hundred/thousand, you should make sure its worth the paper its written on as otherwise it is a complete waste of your money.

The point I was making was the 900% increase, I am not 900% likely to reoffend.
Without the ban the insurance quote is still more than double what I was paying 2 years ago

seeing as quotes are valid for just over a month, a quote two years ago would , unfortunatly, hold no relevance to prices now. the 900% increase will be a mixture of the offence and general rate increases

I'm not dong it to save money. I'm doing it for peace of mind. If I suddenly need to drive someone elses car, I can.

Well no, as even at 19 I paid £1200 to insure a Mondeo in the same postcode area that now yields me 350 quid premiums on my 530i.

Very much the exception not the norm, £1400 MR2 Turbo quotes for 18 year old.

few members on here had them im sure.... cant remeber who mind.
MR2's aside there were saxo vts's driven by 18 year olds everywhere suppose it was more 20005 than 6
