what items do you guys tend to buy straight off? I go for boots then 50% mana regen mask for lina. I then work my way to phase boots and the 150% mana staff.

For Lina I start with 2 healing salves, one of the mask things (circlet) and 4 iron branches.

This gives you a nice stat boost and the salves let you stay in lane longer.

Then I get (in order):
Wand - For a quick health and mana boost.
Null Talisman - increase stats relevant to intelligence heroes.
Phase boots - Increase damage, speed boost and lets you move through creeps.
Aghanim's Scepter - Significantly boosts ult and give more health and mana.

Obviously I buy the component parts as I can afford them and don't just wait until I can get the final item.

After that lot I tend to get stuff to boost mana regen so I can spam her abilities. I don't tend to go for the Blink Dagger anymore because I'm rubbish at using it.

Well its official, I hate playing as Night Stalker.

He is such a slow character to grind and farm with.

Got really angry with myself last night for letting the team town on numerous occasions.

I've found watching some people play a certain class makes it look overpowered. But thats not the case, it is a combination of opposition skill and how well the player actually players.
Basically I saw one of these so called over powered players obliterate an enemy team so I chose that character next round, the enemy wiped the floor with me.

Generally I would say you need to be in the jungle to begin with, try to make sure your level 5 by the first night-time. As soon the night time hits and your level 5 try to sort out a gank, night-stalker is so powerful early to mid for ganking so try not to sit in a lane.

Obviously not every game goes well and you will need to sit in the jungle/lane and farm if needed. Nightstalker really does need a good team around him to be effective i.e not pushing and baiting heroes or the opposite team need to be stretching themselves.

Might be on tonight for a few games, was playing a lot of Sandking a couple of weeks back. Love SK. Can baby sit easily as well as set up some nice ganks to begin with. Once I've got my ultimate and a blink dagger things it nasty..real nasty.

Babysitting as sand king only works well if you have a ranged carry in your lane. Sand King - Lina is one of the most amazing lane combo's to have.

As for playing Lina, I normally end up in a far more supporting role, as most people ingame seem to have a fear of buying a courier or wards. If you're mid, though, I'd start with tango's, 2 mantle's of intellect (+3 int each) 2 mana pots and 2 sticks.

Rush a bottle asap, get all the runes and gank everytime your ultimate is off cooldown.

Also, I get one point in stun to begin with then don't level it up more until a lot later (I prioritize fervor after wave). Saves mana that way, but I'm not sure if it speeds up the stun cast time like it did in HoN.

Once you have bottle finish your boots and get a blink dagger, then it depends entirely on the heroes you're against.

Similarly to Anewbe4u. If anyone does have a spare copy I would be interested. Re activated my LoL account today but just wondered what its like in comparison.

It's a LOT more like HoN mechanically.

If you want to prepare for it and don't know how long it'll take to get into the beta I'd advise playing HoN (Last hitting in DotA is a HUGE part of the laning phase and from what I understand this isn't the same in LoL.).
That said I've never actually played LoL, I just know that HoN is far more similar with regards to how the game plays out.

I agree with KiTBoH, Heroes of Newerth and Dota 2 are near on identical in terms of mechanics. HON was based totally on DOTA but in the last year has tried to move away from being just "A dota clone".

League of Legends is a great game but is a simplified version of DOTA in my opinion. For example, you are unable to last hit your own creeps and thus deny the enemy gold.

The jungle in LOL is far more rigid and ganks are less surprising than in DOTA due to the size and options in the jungle. DOTA does have "buffs" but instead of being on creatures in the jungle it is in the form of a rune. This rune will appear at the top or bottom of the river at intervals, the rune can be several different types of buff.

DOTA does not have not masteries and summoner spells in the sense that LOL does, while you can choose your spells in LOL and use them off cool down in DOTA those spells are often incorporated into items. An example of this is Flash and "Blink dagger" in Dota.

First time I played Night Stalker I didn't pay attention to when night had begun. I ended up farming in lane and starting to roam far too late.
Lost in the end :(

Absolute beast of a hero, and far more fun than a lot of them because you are so powerful at night, being able to dive towers at level 6 and still destroy people is amazing :D

Can someone give me a key, its pathetic how much i want one. really want to play it. :(

I was dying to play it so bought an invite off ebay for £30. At first it seems expensive, but I have already played this for longer than most full cost games, plus all my mates play it, so it was worth it for me.

I am currently in the beta of Dota 2 but coming from LoL it seems incredibly difficult to adjust as its so much more fast paced and unforgiving. i did play Dota before LoL and have also played HoN a little but it seems faster than all these other games to me.
