Poll: Why does England still have a royal family?

Are you pro or anti royal?

I'm aware of that; but the inference in his post was purely anti-monarchy, and the stipulation that they are a waste of money.

I actually think people are generally against the monarchy for moral reasons and people are trying to justify them with (relatively flimsy) economic reasons.

I'm not against the monarchy for flimsy economic or for moral reasons.....I like them, mainly for their historical connection and sense of identity they give to my sense of being British...they are a living history that I think we would be foolish to remove.

I don't see that they impeach on my democratic rights (quite the contrary I see them as upholding them) and I do not feel in any way unequal because of their historic birthright....(I've been made to feel more unequal by elected officialdom than by any member of the Aristocracy)

for these reasons I don't accept the argument against and as they are at worst neutral financially to the UK economy I see no valid reason to remove them.

You're not contradicting anything I said here, I was just saying that if people try to justify having them, it tends to be using an economic argument. You aren't justifying the monarchy with this post, you are just stating you like them and see no reason to remove them, which is pretty much exactly how I view them.

It's hard to 'justify' them convincingly though.

Way to blow my post out of proportion :p. I was just pointing out the flaw in his post!
Sorry, I was just airing my view on the reasons people are generally against the monarchy, nothing to do with your own point personally :)

Apologies, I thought you were making a generalization that most people are generally against the monarchy.

However in response to the quoted part, I think it is equally difficult to justify removing them...for the same reasons.

What a fantastic post.

Children of playgrounds everywhere will look down on you for the level of childishness in your post. Bravo.

As for me, I'm pro-royal. They add something major to the country whether people like it or not :)

And I'm surprised you aren't suspended after that horrific comment in the soldier thread, you ought to be ashamed.

Suspended? theres been much worse said in thread. Is ok for one side to make ***** posts yet the otherside should be punished? Whilst even i dont agree with what i said, you seem to have missed the point of that post.

I love the Monarchy. They are England in my opinion no monarchs no monarchy, no monarchy all those old fantastic buildings and people that are what England and and a lot of the rest of the world came from including US means nothing. They have no character with no Monarchy. The Monarchy is what makes England...

The Princes Trust is an entire Charity by itself that helps tens of thousands of kids and young adults inthe UK every year....this just one of the 17 Charities that the Prince has founded and sponsors both with time and money which help Thousands of individuals, businesses and industries across the country....

So calling him a **** or whatever else you called him is both uncalled for and ignorant.

Sure thing.

People really shouldn't post on a internet forum when they are drunk.
