Woohoo, was waiting for someone to mention this so I could link this:
Would I buy some food/drink/clothing and give it directly to a homeless person? Much, much, more likely.
I've tried this and got abuse back. So charities it is.

100% right.
I am not saying all homeless people are dependant on some drug, including alcohol, but I would guess at 90%+. I am also not a troll I just seem to have a different opinion to most people on here. Maybe when somebody posts the answer to why people choose to be homeless and also why they think that giving a homeless person money is a good idea i will be enlightened. What do they spend this money on as i have never seen them spend it. I don't give homeless people money as i have made the decision not to. I believe giving them money will not help the situation of homeless people at all so it will be of no benefit to me or the person begging for money.
I used to give some money to this chap in my local town, then I saw him playing a touch-screen mobile phone and was like wtf?![]()

I havn't ever given more than afew pounds but i have warned one against eating what he was just given due to who gave him it, would have contained some sort of drugs/poision. He wasnt very liked then he ended up killed, cut up in 6 pieces and scattered all over townPoor guy he didn't hurt no one he just had problems
I spoke with a guy this evening that is French living in Brighton. He was working here last year. He lost his job, lost his flat and now is sleeping on the street. DWP won't pay him benefits. He has no passport and no money to get a replacement - he can't even go home to France if he wanted to.
He sleeps at the moment at a carpark that is being built. He is there because the construction workers allow him to sleep overnight as long as he is gone by 8am each morning.
He sits on the side of the street with no place to go. He doesn't beg. Still, passers by spit on him and treat him like dirt. Everyone is entitled to basic human dignity.
We could all so easily be there instead.

Why doesnt he go to the French embassy or better yet ask a relative for £100 to get a passport sorted.
Homeless guys hang outside tesco/co-op and as soon as you give them cash they go inside and buy beer. so... why would you give them money, cold or otherwise. f that
Why wouldnt he ? If you are homeless, what are you going to do, go home and watch the TV, surf the internet, play a game ? Or sit in the park and watch the world go by with nothing to do and no money thinking of where you are going to sleep tonight.
Exactly why giving anything to them is a total waste. If I were homeless I'd be doing everything in my power to get myself out of the situation, not waste it on alcohol. It's one reason being homeless is a choice. There is NO reason to be homeless in this country today, there is SO much help available yet most are to lazy or to bothered about the next drink to care.
