Waiting 10 seconds for search or New Posts

What!

You only paid £200????

Oops, caught.

At least it paid for my last Upgrade.....

Seriously a 10-20 wait between posts is not a problem, I was a bit of a spammer before I became a don and I don't think I ever ran into problems with short timers (and still haven't on other forums), possibly because I tend to post more than a couple of words at a time usually:p

Doesn't that just mean if you spam enough you get to spam even faster...?

I've got to say I wouldn't be in favour of removing the time limit between posting, it's minimal enough as it is and any time you can post a reply in under 20 seconds I've got serious doubts that it's really adding anything much to the topic - that's not to say you can't post a correct response quickly but whether it's particularly worthwhile is another issue. If you're lining up replies but not submitting to post them one after another then the question must be asked why are you doing that?

As for the 10 seconds between searches, it's a practical way to reduce/stop the impact of DDOS attacks as has been mentioned so that's not likely to change. However I'll be honest and admit that search isn't something I used often enough for that 10 second wait to bother me, now I might use it more often but there's no time restrictions as Zefan said.

Well in the watercooling forum, a lot of my answers are things like
"H100's are crap"
"you need 14 fittings"
"Get the XSPC EX rad over the GTS"

etc, so they're very quick to reply to

Also, most spammers will get banned before they hit the 5k post count

Cleeecooo seems to reckon there is, I've personally never hit it nor am I ever likely to but I'm willing to believe that if there is one he has probably found it to be 20 seconds. :)

I shall take a screenshot...

This really bothers me. How many times had you double clicked on 'new posts' accidently and been presented with the screen asking you to wait 10 seconds ?

What do you do ? Wait it out or switch to another tab and work on something else ?

For me, if I decide to wait I start cursing and thinking about my death and all those 10 seconds that I've wasted in my life

I get old while waiting.

You need to get a life it you get bothered by a ten second wait. Why the urgency, it's a discussion forum and not a real time chat room. Maybe you should get your search correct in the first place.

I have to say that I've never found the search function to be particularly reliable so quite often you have to try multiple searches to actually find what you're looking for.

In these instances it can be frustrating to not be able to instantly re-search.

You can't just say "get your search correct in the first place" because you can't predict what will or won't work.

It could be a completely logical search term but not return any results.

I think I'll give the google idea a go.

But arguably you could simply expand each of those examples into something more useful which admittedly would take a bit more time but would mean that people might learn something from your knowledge and you wouldn't have to spend so much time clarifying.

e.g. "H100s are crap" - well great but what does that tell me about the other options available that I could/should go for instead?
"You need 14 fittings" - better in that it's more specific but does the person you're talking to know which 14 fittings, are they all the same or are there differences that they should be aware of?
"Get the XSPC EX rad over the GTS" - I'll take your word for it that it's an improvement but why, does it cool better in an absolute sense, provide a better balance of cost/performance, is it a more suitable fitting in a smaller case or what?

I'm not particularly bothered about the examples and it's not an issue specific to you by any means but sometimes with a bit more thought instead of multiple posts that half skirt round the issue the same points could be contained within one larger and more coherent post.

Also, most spammers will get banned before they hit the 5k post count

Quite possibly but there are still members who have post counts above 5k who spam on occasion - let's put it this way the removal of the post count might have a small benefit for people who genuinely type exceptionally fast and contribute well but hit the restriction - however it doesn't strike me as a benefit significant enough to warrant any action.
