To level and unlock stuff in a jet, you just have to kill other people/jets/heli's etc while in one. Go on your profile and click the vehicles tab; It will show you what unlocks you have and how close you are to other ones.
 
Ah well it cost me £20 to find out I'm absolutely rubbish at flying jets. Finally decided to get a flight stick & get into air combat.

After 50 deaths I finally had one kill and received the flares upgrade :eek:

Thanks very much.

Also at the end of a round you get to see the ribbons you/unlocks etc.

And then theres another page with various boxes and titles inside them and in each box there is a bar which increases bit by bit with each round.

Can anyone explain what this page is about exactly?

If you want to get some practice in without anyone shooting you down, type in 'practice' in the server filter and find an empty flight server ;) Can also use it to fly heli's and use them to cap points in conquest and get some levels.

Is that the one with eight or so boxes in two rows?

Those are the Back to Karkand Assignments. There's a page on your Battlelog which gives you all of the details (I really wish it gave them there as well, it's impossible to know if you need a rifle kill or a tank-kill-with-repair-tool to actually unlock the damn thing).

When Back to Karkand was released, new assignments for new guns were introduced. You can see what you need to unlock them by clicking on the 'Assignments' tab in your profile (same screen where you clicked the vehicle tab).

Yea, with the round timer counting down, they should give you the chance to make changes and click on the guns to see what you need.
 
I no longer start on Metro softcore and switch to hardcore. Its now hardcore 24/7, even when starting off like today.

I'll be able to sleep easier tonight now knowing im not fooling random internet people i dont know who call me a noob and worse.

start em on metro softcore then switch to firestorm hardcore and watch em sweat :)
