Piracy - Today's Discussion

Gabe has it spot on, the success of Steam confirms this.

Too bad companies such as Ubisoft and EA and too naive to realise this.

Just think of all the money they are wasting on this DRM / Anti-piracy rubbish, not to mention paying customers who are put off from purchasing.

No wonder why people pirate games.

Exactly, not as if the game won't be cracked/hacked anyway. I know I will not buy this now. Three installs without a reset is crazy, unless they will reset if you provide scans. I did this with Two Worlds 1 and southpeak reset my install back to 5 or something.

Woah !! I am glad I took a look at this thread now as it has been a while since I poked my head in here.
Anyway I was thinking of buying Anno 2070 but with just 3 activations and by the look of it no way of revoking the activations they can kiss my money goodbye.

Bring back the good old days... I really don't like the way gaming is heading. Activations in games should not exist, once you buy the game that is it, end of.

i stupidly bought a ubi game half the time i come to pl,ay it it wont let me because the servers are down :/

How are EA naive when they have their own digital platform exactly like Steam? :p

Ubisoft - oh dear. Oh dear.

Their stupidity and narrow-mindedness astounds me.

I will not be buying another Ubisoft game.

Drawing attention to themselves and simply encouraging a greater likelihood of their titles being pirated by those that perhaps normally wouldn't consider doing so, due to the nonsensical implementation of their efforts.

Oh n00bisoft.... I didn't think you could get much dumber, but yes... it appears as though you can.

Not allowing a reviewer enough copies to review the game... what next, just not sending any games out at all to review? Makes sense, it'll save them some money. :)

To add to this look at Minecraft for example.

This has sold millions and he has made a fortune from it.

Ok I bet there is a pirate copy out there but just shows that if its good it will still do well.

EDIT

If you ask me all this anti piracy crap like DRM etc etc hurts sales and only effects the legit customers who then think bugger this next time I will download it.

Minecraft has been pirated to heaven.

Notch himself said he doesn't mind as long as you don't make money out of it.

Minecraft's development cost was tiny compared to any big budget productions.

I buy Ubisoft games purely for the ANNO series, I'd love to avoid the company but I do find these PC only strategy games totally worth the cash. I hate the fact I give them money and do feel dirty but the ANNO games are my exception to the rule... forgive me....:o

I know it has been pirated what I was trying to say was even though it has they still made lots of money even for an indie game.

I just don't understand it at all. I honestly can't work out what's going on in the minds of Ubisoft to put these systems in place.

Despite loving the PoP series and having owned the console versions years ago, they're pretty much the only games I didn't buy in the steam Christmas sale because of Ubisoft's previous actions...and it's only getting worse.

Will I pirate them? No I won't, I'd rather just forget about them and Ubisoft full stop. It will be a joyous day when people stop bothering to even look at their games nevermind pirate them.
