PS Vita will fail

Ive gotta admit id rather spend tht kinda money on a tablet that can do everything. Whilst the vita is a brilliant bit of kit that has some brilliant innovations its just too expensive IMO

dedicated gaming handhelds are reaching end game, the 3DS has bombed compared to the original DS. iOS devices have eaten into the market, why carry a vita when I can get similar games and graphics on my iPhone

The 3DS has sold more than the DS had at the same stage.

The Vita could do well in the west. The problem for Sony is that Japan is a huge market for handle but most of the top current gen games are western games that don't sell in Japan. Nintendo has a huge portfolio of handle games or games that will translate well into handle games. Phones will certainly eat into a certain part of the gaming market but games with complex controls are crap with touch screen controls.

Vita is marketed towards the older gamer. I just can't see people of my target bracket wanting to haul that thing around as well as a phone.

Yes phones don't offer the same kind of experience as Vita, but on the move, I really think the casual touchscreen games like Trials which only cost a few pounds are good enough for people.

I myself bought a PSP, didn't really use it that much. Now I have a phone with casual gaming there is no way I'll buy Vita.

Why has it got to be for when your out and about?

I'm an adult gamer and I can see the vita getting used more frequently than my home console at home.

If people choose not to buy it because they believe it to be of no use to them then fair enough, but don't try and tell others what's a failure just because you don't see a benefit.

similar games and graphics on my iPhone

Not sure if serious.

No phone could play something like unchartered on Vita as smooth as the Vita does. The controls on Phones suck for any decent game as well.

I'll probably get a Vita even if only to play FF 10 HD, hopefully my fav PSP games will be available on the scheme they are running/going to run to get a digital version as well.

Will also be good to still be able to play stuff when the GF is on the PS3 at home.

Do people here all own wonder phones with awesome batteries? If I sat down for dedicated gaming for > 1 hour on my phone, battery life would suffer big time... :(

The Vita looks great.

As someone who spends quite of free time playing video games, I couldn't be less interested in a portable console. Unless you are commuting for well over an hour day and are just sitting around whilst doing so, what's the point? Much better to play a game on a console or pc! Even then, as if listening to music isn't enough on a journey.

I imagine most gamers feel the same these days.

I feel like this, too. Uninterested.

When I bought a DS a couple of years ago I loved it and played on it quite a lot. Mostly I liked the novelty of being able to go back and play classics like Chrono Trigger and other RPG's. However, my interest waned pretty quickly and I went back to my consoles and PC.

After saying all that though I can neither predict failure nor success for the Vita. I won't buy one but that doesn't mean that millions of others won't.

I think a lot of people are skeptical to buy from Sony after they got hacked and PSN was down for a long time. It seriously hurt their image.

You're so off the mark it hurts.

It's just another machine that has exclusive titles, exceptionally good ones too. And it's a bonus to be able to take it around town with you.

As much as i love the hardware and titles available for it, i cannot see a place in the market, it's a great shame as i do really want one but will not be investing due to my reservations.

That's not just it though, people are saying the 3DS has also 'failed' when it's thriving. As soon as some killer apps arrived they started flying off the shelves, people are too quick to write things off, especially when most people who have posted fire-and-forget replies in this thread seem to have virtually no idea what they're talking about.

Indeed, there was a dry period from Nintendo but they made up for it by giving us 20 free games and have at least continuously updated their E-store and more. Then their blockbuster games were released.

I'm not writing the Vita off. I think it looks great and will hopefully become an owner one day. But image is everything in the consumer world and also re-paying for games you already had will annoy a lot of people. (UMD crap)

I just wonder what big names Sony will use to try and sell them. Their launch titles aren't that great either. Uncharted and wipeout really.

The problem I heard so far about the vita is its again under powered. Like the psp before it, touted as ps2 in ur hand, but more like a ps1 in ur hand. The reviews are its like a ps2 in ur hand and not a ps3.

It suffers slowdown when theres some stuff going on at the same time, I will try and find the uncharted vita review somewhere.

I dont think i'll be spending my money on it either.

Just looked at Wipeout vids and the FPS does slightly go down when a projectile explodes.

Don't think that would be a deal breaker for some but if it's consistently slowing down on all games, that's not good.

I don't know who plays handhelds these days anyway to be honest, be it young or old people. The only people to my knowledge that lap this crap up is the Japs.

Nintendo sold half a million units just at christmas, they've sold over 4 million in total now.

IGN said 6.68 million and others are saying over 4m, I don't know who to believe but I'll stick with 4 million. :p

4 million of these kind of people:
