PS Vita will fail

As much as i love the hardware and titles available for it, i cannot see a place in the market, it's a great shame as i do really want one but will not be investing due to my reservations.

What exactly does your reservations have to do with it?

If you want something then you buy it, if not you don't. It's not rocket science....

Just looked at Wipeout vids and the FPS does slightly go down when a projectile explodes.

Don't think that would be a deal breaker for some but if it's consistently slowing down on all games, that's not good.

There's are the first generation of games though, the developers still won't know the best way of utilising the hardware and I imagine that the games were somewhat rushed to meet the launch of the console too.

Nintendo sold half a million units just at christmas, they've sold over 4 million in total now.

IGN said 6.68 million and others are saying over 4m, I don't know who to believe but I'll stick with 4 million. :p

I believe it was 4 million in the US alone.....

I think the Vita may find a market in folk who want to sit and half watch TV and play a game.

Sometimes I can't be bothered and it's not fair on her indoors for me to sit down and use the TV for the whole night to play games. But the Vita appeals as i can sit back, have something on the TV and sit playing FIFA quite happily.

People won't wait around for engine refreshes. Especially since most of the people in this market don't really care for the technical talk.

Unlike us, we can wait because we know what it takes to make a game. Most consumers, not so much.

So what happens if you buy it and support dries up leaving you with a £250 coaster?

I have a feeling it will not sell well and, whilst i love the release catalogue, developers will leave it quickly if they can't get sales thus making it a not-so-appealing purchase. It's not rocket science...

If it turns out to be a success i'll grab one later when it's:

A: Cheaper
B: Has a nice big back-catalogue of games to enjoy

I'm a sucker for tech, and I quite like the look of the PS Vita. Depending on the line up of games, I can see myself coughing up the cash in the weeks after release. I just enjoy playing video games, Xbox 360, PS3, PC, 3DS, PS Vita(?). I play my 3DS on my sofa, or wherever. The PSV wouldn't just be for playing on the move, for me. It just depends what mood I'm in. ;)

I just got my 3DS with Zelda Ocarina Of Time = Best game EVER!

Is Vita can offer awesome like that then I'll buy it, And buy awesome I meen games on the same awesome level of Zelda but so far it's a no go.

Would love to have a few games remastered for this Vita but doubt it'll happen.

It's too close to PS3 in terms of experience, Sure it's a hand held but game wise it's just a PS3. Is that enough for people? We'll see..

Atleast 3DS offers something that you can't get on any other platform.

I think a lot of people are skeptical to buy from Sony after they got hacked and PSN was down for a long time. It seriously hurt their image.

I doubt it's done much damage at all in the long run. Yes, at the time morons were panicking and trading their PS3s in for 360s so their time with <Generic FPS here> wouldn't be interrupted, but I've not heard of anyone having any concerns about it since then.

It won't sell well, but I think your wrong about the support drying up. Reason's being that Sony will support it (obviously), and as already stated by developers the cost to port ps3 games across to the vita is extremely simple and ultimately cheap.

As you can already see with the launch lineup the 3rd party developers are porting games with additional features rather than building vita only games. That means there will always be a flow of games, it's whether you want new fresh games or whether you will be content with ported games?

Far to much has been taken from the Japanese launch, which I said before it had come out Sony were dumb to launch a western console, with western games into the japanese market.

Ah but people never forget. :p

And may still have bad blood with Sony, it did affect a lot of users.

I'm not saying that's the biggest reason or that the Vita will fail because of that. I just personally believe it hurt their image in the long run.

Sure it's an issue, but I can't see it affecting the decisions of many as to whether to buy Sony products in the future. To my knowledge, nobody actually lost money or had bank accounts accessed as a result of what happened.

No different to the Xbox's RRoD issues really, it may have caused some bad press but it won't have had a dramatic impact on sales or reputation.

Anyone playing that FPS should have a 360 anyway :p

I think the Vita will do well.... They have learnt from the PSP for example using it as a web browser was not a good experience, not enough memory messages and no keyboard.... Vita has more memory, and a touchscreen keyboard.... Anti-piracy measures must be a lot higher compared to the psp, hopefully in the league of the ps3, that should help keep developers on-board and new games coming out. Hardware is powerful enough for future releases of ps1 games, maybe from other consoles too....
I reckon this is for those who haven't bought a tablet but like to do some gaming too.....
I know the physical controls on my XPeria Play android phone make it much better to play games on.... Infact it will be great when I take it with me on the plane next week to Egypt.....

Plus the PSN down-time but a lot of consumers do knee-jerk that way. Sales have slowed right down in Japan.

I'm not sure if it's due to shortages or tsunami rebuilding and nobody can afford it. It will be interesting to see what the sales are over here.

I can't be the only one waiting for the Vita to be hacked. When people can start emulating SNES, PSP, PSX, etc games on it, a lot of people will buy it (can't imagine many of those buyers will buy actual games though).

(and I mean the Vita itself, not its PSP emulator - which is awesome).
