How do you know if you took out a PPI? I don't remember....
I got a PPI letter saying so. I also got a PPI number, which should be with your loan letters.

It wasn't money I had in the first place and should not have recieved it so
I DON'T CARE.![]()
Calm down sonny Jim.
Technically it is money you had.... The only extra you got was the interest...... You lost a bit too because you had to pay vat.
Well anyone that takes loans looses a bit.![]()
Or a lot... Depending on the interest rate.
I've moved around a lot since I took out the loan so I am not 100% certain where the original agreement is!
do people just get back what they paid?
Correct!

i made a complaint against my bank for a few loans i was sold ppi on going back about 11yrs ago. ( i was young and naive)
i got just over 7 grand back!
done it all myself. managed to find a template. tweaked it to my personal circumstances(took about 30 mins) and sent it off.
whole process took around 12 weeks for me.
Excellent news, nice easy 7k for you there! I've just downloaded the template and filled it out, just need to find the official agreement to note the number down and then it's off to HSBC!
all i did was call them up and asked for references for all the loans which i had ppi against. i had no paperwork at all.
they then initiated the complaint on the phone and i followed it up in writing.
with hsbc also.
i originally thought it was a max of 6 yrs back but as i proof you can go a lot further back.
How long did the claim take to go through with HSBC? My loan was definately in the last 6 years, ended 3 years ago, if i remember rightly i paid an extra £40 a month or so for the PPI so should stand to get back £1500 at least
Thanks, will give them a call in the morning!

it's not an easy £7k, he paid out £7k.
do they pay any interest on these refunds? if not, you've done yourself out of the interest you could've earned by saving £7k up over that period
