Hey guys,

I've just downloaded CPU-Z and well I've seen something weird. I have recently purchased a Intel 2500k processor and it is 3.30ghz. However, after looking at the Core Speed on CPU-Z it says its:

Core Speed : 1596mhz
Multiplier : x16

Does this mean that my processor is actually running at 1.6ghz or to get the proper result of the processor you multi 1.6ghz to that 'x16'?

Thank you :)

At stock settings when idle your cpu frequency is lower.

Try opening a browser or some otherprogram with cpu z open, you see the clock speed jump back to 3.3

I probably keep it, no point turning it off as when I do need it, its there for me :). Im considering overclocking soon anyway, im just a tad scared to go for it atm haha

I was scared my first time overclocking too. But once you figure out how to do it properly and take it one step at a time it's much easier.

What mobo do you have? Has it got a TPU switch or any overclock utilitys in the bios to make it easier?

I have the Asrock Extreme 4 Generation 3 motherboard Andy. Really might just google some vids of people overclocking this motherboard and use there setting or lower

that sounds like a good idea but when you are overclocking it's best to start of low and work up to it, while keeping an eye on the temps and voltages.

Just go into the bios on the OC Tweaker tab, and pick which speed you fancy ;)

While you're in there go on the DRAM Timing Control and set the XMP Profile, checking the timmings match your ram.
Then back in the OC Tweaker tab, disable Spread Spectrum.
And set your DRAM voltage to 1.500v manually, assuming your memory is rated to run at this(most DDR3 will)
If you start off low, say 4.2GHz you can leave the vcore on auto for now.
Then boot into windows, download Intel Burn Test, Core Temp and CPU-Z.
Open all 3 programs on screen, so you can monitor the vcore on CPU-Z and the temps on Core Temp, While running IBT (set this to run 10 times on Maximum Stress Level) take a screenshot while IBT is halfway through it's last run and post it back on here.
So we can advise you how far you may be able to go.

If the temps go over 80C or the vcore over 1.425v STOP IBT and lower the OC then post back here :D

You should be able to get something like this as long as you've got decent cooling, if not don't attempt to go over 4GHz, it'll do that on stock vcore.
