Post apocalyptic novels recommend

I didn't enjoy it much but as you say it may still be worth reading , not least because it puts you in a position to discuss it and its merits or lack thereof.

I found the same. I really did want to enjoy it, but I just couldn't. I wasn't a fan of the prose at all, that's what spoiled it for me rather than the story itself.

For Zombies i would recommend David Moodys Autumn books, these were the first zombie books i read and ive been pretty much hooked to the gener ever since, but never seem to find any books quite as good as his.

None zombie books are:
I just finished Old man and the Wasteland - only 77p on amazon kindle. Very good book.
Swan song i have yet to read but i have heard nothing but good things.
Roadside picnic is kind of post apocalyptic and a very good read, as is the Stalker book im reading at the moment, Southern Comfort.

Definatally Day of the Triffids.
Didnt enjoy War of the Worlds very much, but it was still a fun read.

The Road - one of my favourite books by one of the best writers of the past 100 years. It is the pinnacle of post apocalyptic fiction.

I also enjoyed cats cradle and on the beach.

The Survivalist series by Jerry Ahern isn't too bad but can be rather 'samey' from time to time.

I've read at least the first ten of these and whilst they're entertaining in a pulp way, the main character does seem to have the ability to repel bullets.:D

Probably already been mentioned but The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. Shows its age a bit now and relatively short compared to a lot of novels today but still a great read

/Salsa

Maybe crossing genres a bit, but James Herbert's Domain is an excellent post apocalyptic horror.

It could be because I had just read A Canticle for Leibowitz but I found this book a bit naff. It took me a while to read and felt like a chore, I wont be reading any more of Herberts stuff.

Jcb33.

I consider this book to be a very profound read of peoples ability to survive (or not) in the most extreme of circumstances...

William R. Forstchen One Second After...

I am glad that I did not read too much about it before I started the book but regardless of that it is a fantastic read.

BTW his earlier books in the "Lost Regiment" series are classics
