Fathers (is there any mothers?) of OcUK - what pushchair/car seat/carrycot?

Get one where the baby faces backward, towards you. It's counter intuitive, but it's better for the baby, they show lower stress levels compared to forward facing babies because they're much more concerned about seeing their parents than seeing the world.

the usual places like mothercare or off people who we knew .

one of the biggest scams going with how much some cost. you want something that is light and easy to steer not clever functions

Do not buy a travel system they are a waste of time and you won't bother with half of it. They are overly heavy and bulky because they are designed to be a jack of all trades master of none.

In all honesty I'd buy a 2nd hand set if you are led around by your mrs that she has to have a travel system. 6-9 months we had ours and then we were looking for a better larger car seat and buggy. It cost £500 and got sold in immaculate condition for £90.

That was all I could get for it and the pram section was used once :(

You will though ignore all the above and buy a brand new travel system because you will be convinced you need to buy new for little timmy. :D

Sorry but the travel system we had was great

Travel system cost £40 at a car boot sale, sold again for £40 after we had our use out of it. Just buy a cheap buggy on-line, our little one was walking at ten months and we rarely used it after that, it would have been a waste of money for anything expensive. Car seat get a good one if money will allow, you never know when you might be in a crash, it might be the difference between life and death.
I can't help thinking that vanity is often involved when choosing travel systems and buggies, the expensive ones are for mugs in my opinion.

We've got a Jane Matrix Cup car seat - flat or rear facing and fitted my little'un from newborn up to about 13 months before he started getting upset by not being able to see what was going on

Pushchair is a Jane Slalom Pro - the matrix Cup just clips onto the pushchair too so it becomes a travel system in its own right :) - It's easy to push, light, we had a P&T before and that was SO heavy!!

The pushchair doesn't fold up particularly small so if you've got a small boot or if you've got the back seats constantly up in your Zafira (like me) then it's a bit of a PITA!

Here's a link to it (same colour scheme too :D)

Can't get that colour any more (some may say that's a good thing, but I like it :P) but the whole system itself is still available

we were lucky and got a lot of stuff given to us by family members, one of the only things i bought new was a car seat, and that was because the one i got given wouldnt work in my Honda Hrv because the seat belt was too short.

One of the most useful things was a baby carrier, trying to push a pram though Morcambe open market when its busy was a nightmare. Also when we had to go on the tube in london the carrier was such a godsend.

We got Hauck traxx marlin 4, its definitely a fathers buggy came with maxi cosi (the best car seat tbh) adapters went everywhere easy to push. bit wide but never had any problems with doorways or anything

days out were awesome
everyone else took fiat pandas we took the land rover

Why exactly? I've always been told they are over-priced fashion accessories and, looking at some reviews, they are.

the main things that stuck out to me when i was looking where the fact that it faces both ways, (i know its not the only one that does!) the baby is more on your eye level when sat facing, its up out of the way of car fumes etc, its easy to use as a highchair when out and about as its height adjustable, it doesnt take a lot of space up, and it has a lot more storage space than similar systems due to the expandable bag.

Im not saying it is right for everyone, but I like it :)

Another Quinny Buzz and Maxi Cosi setup here. Combine it with car base and it's perfect.
I bought the front air wheel and the lower shopping basket which makes it easier to push over rough ground and increases the storage.

We have used the Jane travel system, both the single and the twin variety. Highly recommended.

+1 Have the slalom pro and the power twin and they are superb. They are quite heavy but really easy to push. I had the strata car seat as well from new born which is a really nice seat.

Disc brake and suspension :D

we bought a mothercare 4 wheel travel system with an isofix car seat base (mychoice i think it was called). my parents wanted to buy it for us so didn't argue but it was about £600 or so I think.

car seat is really good, we now have the pebble which is the next one up and fits in the same isofix base. we had problems with the wheels, the front ones had a habit of locking at right angles to the road when you were pushing it. mothercare replaced the wheels but they are still not perfect.

the good thing about the system is that the pram doubles as the seat, so you fold some bits here and there and make it into a seat and it will theoretically last from birth until he doesn't want to go in it anymore. it can also face forward or back in any configuration.

but it is bloody massive, takes up most of our hallway and we're going to change it for a smaller stroller as soon we can get the cash together. if you've not done it yet, go to the shops and check some out, see what fits you best.

We have an 11 week old and we went for the iCandy Apple. We added carry cot, flavour pack, foot muff and maxi cosi cabriofix car seat.

It's been great to be honest. If we are going out for a while we'll take the carrycot otherwise we will just dock the car seat on the chasis.

We have a bugaboo bee, and I think it is great. Everyone will have different priorities though. I live in central London, and use public transport regularly (tube & bus). The bee is quite narrow, which means it can fit easily on busses and is not excessively antisocial on the tube. The bee is also very light, which is handy because we live in a third floor apartment and there is no lift!

We have a maxicosy far seat, that cost a bomb an was probably used less than a handful of times. It seems fine, and I think is the best rated car seat, but I prob should have looked second hand. You will have to buy a new seat after 12-18months anyhow.

the bee is really cute!

the only really bad thing about travel systems is that people clip car seats onto them and use that as the seat to push the baby around in, abd its really not good for babies.
