Weird 90's Timeless Video

That's absolute rubbish. They had a habit of switching from almost spoken-word verses to energetic chorus and yes with shouting and whatnot, but saying Kurt only shouted and screamed? nonsense!

I'm not getting into a whole debate about whether Nirvana were good or not. At the end of the day it's all about personal opinions, and what music suits them best. I will take GnR over Nirvana any day.

Nevermind was never an album that Kurt wanted to make. He stated many times that it was not the sound he was after. Of course, it made them famous, but Butch Vig made it far too commercial for Kurts liking.

The real Nirvana can be heard by listening to Bleach and In Utero. Kurt always said that In Utero was the album he had been waiting to be able to make all his life. Damn shame it was his last.

The band, in my opinion, were certainly not overrated. They defined a lot of music that we still hear today.

I am one of the lucky few that saw them live, myself at Reading Festival in 1992. Never been back since as I do not see the point. :)

I saw Nirvana at the same festival..(don't remember too much though, if you know what I mean):)

I am not saying they were a bad band, quite the contrary, only that they are overrated....other influential bands get overlooked, like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains....Soundgarden especially were cited by Cobain as being a major influence on him...

This is what I am getting at, not that Nirvana were rubbish, only that they are rated by many in such as way they ignores the guys that really started the scene and were arguably just, if not more, influential in the grunge scene and the wider implications of that.

I agree with what you are saying about the albums though, which is ironic given that Cobain accused Pearl Jam of selling out to the mainstream....yet Nevermind was precisely that.

Fair comment. Great gig though. :D

I think that the The Pixies have never really got the recognistion they deserved either. One of my other favourite bands of that era.

I never mentioned whether you think Nirvana were good or not and you are well within your rights to detest everything they stood for. but this is about them 'constantly screaming and shouting' as you put it and this isnt any personal opinion - He simply did not only scream and shout. It makes me wonder if you've actually sat and listened to any of their songs. Smells Like Teen Spirit, the song in the op, isnt full of screaming.

Wierd Al actually has a good point.
Weird Al took the micky of his mumbling just as much as his shouting, by the way.

I loved it when I first heard it at the time, but smells like teen spirit has become a bit cheesy for me now, not however Lithium and In bloom.
