Which are the fastest 2TB & 3TB harddrives

I would go for the 7200rpm 3TB Hitachi - I have two and they are really nice drives. Shame they are in such short supply at the moment as I would like another. I think the Seagates are quite quick but I have a phobia about Seagate drives...

I'd recommend Seagate. I've found them to be the most reliable and the best performing, though it all comes down to personal experience. I had a bad experience with Western Digital drives and my brother had a couple of defective drives from them, yet others will say the same thing about Seagate.

What I will say is that the Seagate Barracuda 3TB I have in my system is that fastest of all my HDDs. Just be aware that any drive can fail, so it's always a good idea to have critical files backed up with Dropbox or on multiple drives. Win8 will support an entirely new drive structure that includes redundancy, so hopefully hard-drive failures will become less of a concern going into the future.

just found one of these 3TB Hitachi's for £84. Its in an external enclosure but can be taken out. Bargain.

Sure it's the 7200rpm version (7K3000) not the 5400rpm (5K3000)? Fairly unusual to see a 7200rpm drive in an external.

I opened a 3tb hitachi XL3000 drive and it had a 7200rpm drive in it, quite nice for £120, it's attached through usb 3 atm but will be going internal soon.
