** Official World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Thread **

As Bans Hammer found out, it is really difficult to both be social and a raiding guild. The raiders tend to get worked up when half the members wont raid or take raiding casually and leave to form their HC raiding guild. Maybe things will be different now with the LFR tool. Anyway hope the resurgent bans hammer will stay casual.

On a totally unrelated note, Hope the Pandas can shoot lightning out of their hands. That would have me in stitches.

well a guild just started up last week on the newcomers forum on the official forums

they have 150+ members now, doing exactly what i said there.

no looms, no xfers, no moneys except for guild starts up gold and they are on weekly level caps (this week its 30). When they hit the cap they work on their professions.

I think that also encourages you to not spend so much time on wow. :)

i might go and join it as unfortunately, no matter where you look, vast majority of wow peeps only care about being level 85 with l33t gear.......the community is gone in it.

id expect here to be no different, its a shame as in my opinion the recent attempts at ocuk wow guilds have been horrendously mismanaged on top of the waning popularity.

I think the l33t gear attitude is indicative of modern MMO's not just WoW unfortunately.

Might check this out on the offical forums when I get home tonight. Artifically imposed levelling caps might not be for me though as Casual as I am, the last time I re-rolled totally fresh I blasted through the 1-60 experiance and leveled profs to 300 in under 2 days. Is there enough playtime/fun for me to justify the monthly sub in that though..probably not :(

Agreed re the mismangement of recent OCuk Guild attempts, if the original concept of Bans Hammer had stayed true it might still be around now.

The aim is to stay a social/casual guild.

Last time round we ended up trying to please everyone and ended up not being able to do enough for anyone due to being spread so thin.

Will stay social/casual and generally just have fun. With LFR now it's easy for people to raid with no hassle.

People are starting to trickle back so if you want in just let me know.

id still recommend starting a fresh new project, even if its on the same server and same faction. Clean slate where peeps can level up again. :D

dont see why anyone would move their estabilished 85s to a new server at this point in the game to a guild that failed once already.

When I first got into wow it was on the Ghostlands server. My mate who got into the game made me join the guild he was in which was meant to be a 'social' guild but we soon moved onto the raids to which I joined in having never done it before, 3 months later we had done naxx 10 man and it was apparent that our team was not cut out for raiding so we reverted back to a 'social' guild. Now what always confused me was the guilds definition of a 'social' guild. We would random raid, chase lore, do a bit of pvp but in the end it got us nowhere and everyone got bored. So back to raiding when the lich king came out, epic fail it was and so I re-rolled, joined another guild and downed the king in 10 man then the guild went 'social' (as above) and then split.

I then took a break and got dragged back into it by a work mate, cata and the joys, 3 months in and I just had naferion to kill in the 2 cata raids, team split and I quit (again)....

And now I want to play... but my ideals may be asking too much...

I would like to see an OcUK guild that is aimed at being a social and raiding guild but as No1newts said the guild tried to please everyone. I can raid on a sat or sun night ( I work nights so no weekdays) and if no raid i would like to do the random things too.

I suck at pvp but a team would be ace (random guild BG?) I want to go back to tanking raids. (solo LFR? no tried it yet. Sounds painfull....)

Social guild with raids as an optional extra?... Send out raid invites to guildies a few days before then fill the gaps with LFR? (bit like having 4 people in a group doing a 10 man bg I guess?

I am completely out of touch with wow, you guys who are active and have the knowledge could glue your heads together, re-make a fresh guild and put set rules in. Maybe aim the guild at a server with a higher Horde to Alliance ratio? I dont know. :D

Rant over! few, sorry guys must be the coffee:eek:

Ps: People from OcUK why dont we draw a poll for the likes of what we want from an OcUK guild? Eg: pvp, raids, lore chasing?

i will watch this thread with interest, id be very willing to setup a new ocuk wow guild for people wanting to reroll.......or i may bung an 85 in an existing one.

Its rather amusing when not in a guild at just how many invites you get:D

I would contribute my 85 pala to the guild (and maybe level a warrior tank if others re-roll)

We need someone to take over GM / Leadership of the current guild on Defias as it's level 25 and is in good condition.

I'm more then happy to do so :)

Brackish, blood elf paladin.

My mate who got me into the game was called Thatgezerboy, tauren warrior in the guild called casual raiding.

I will be up for moving my paladin to DB. I suppose a new guild might me a last resort since the current one is level 25.

Reroll guilds are usually the most fun, levelling up together and getting to experience vanilla and expansion content you may have missed or wish to experience again in a different role. The one you ran in Moonglade was a lot of fun, only wish we'd had better numbers to sustain it.

From my experience when you get to raiding the competitive aspect can bring out the worst in some people and lead to disharmony, competition for spots, lack of focus on social aspect, non raiders becoming second class citizens etc. Not always the case but seen to much of it in too many mmo's.

indeed, thats why i would prefer everyone start from scratch, get a community going and learn each others play styles and personalities as you level up and do the content in a casual friendly fashion.

i see only fail tbh all clamming a bunch of 85s together, and some falling out.

i would certainly be willing to get a new guild started from level 1 on Defias, it would be super organised too, but only if there is enough interest.

i had thought SWOTOR would get me away from WOW, but tbh, it hasnt as its just another clone with better graphics and crappier combat.

Ok, I have a guild (lvl 18 at the minute) on Tarren Mill horde just sitting there with a few socials in it. I would be more than happy to open it up and make ppl officers, organise some pvp, casual raids etc. Message me via trust and Ill give ppl my battlenet address if you want to chat about it. Have plenty of alts that I can go on weekend raids etc on also so interested in that side of things.

I do raid on my main toon, but as pointed out eariler, the whole LFR thing has made getting into entry level raid gear very easy as well as filling in spots for any raids you can't get 10/25 people for.

Solo tanking in LFR is no problem, all you have to do is read up on the fights and taunt at the right points. As long as both tanks know what to do, its generally not a problem. And with LFR you have unlimited battle resses anyway so if things to go wrong then its still not a wipe!

Funnily enough I cleared 10man naxx with geze pretty soon after WoTLK released and was in casual raiding for a while, I think baragiel ended up taking over after unholyman switch servers iirc?

Yep he did. They did well but geze gave up. He played that game to death and refuses to go near it again. I never went near casual raiding as I could not commit to their times.
