£1000 to spend to remember my Grandad

I'd buy something that you can pass to your own grandkids. A watch is maybe a decent option, but some nice jewelry that you can pass on in 50 years time when you snuff it would be worth considering.

Or a tattoo.

Is it just me or do all these watches look exactly the same?

I don't understand why he's looking at those watches as he said he wants something that compliments a suit. A classic, simple watch would be much better. I also think that his wrists won't be able to pull off a decent sized TAG/Omega. He's going for brand rather than look/function which is wrong IMO.

What are you saying about my wrists :p

These watches do compliment suits but are more of a modern look opposed to a classy look. I know what you're trying to say...

To be honest with you...this is my ideal watch.

Here's a nice classy watch but it's not what I'm after.

You're the same as me, very thin wrists! Apologies if you haven't got thin wrists, but I'm sure you've mentioned it before. It's a curse, I've tried on watches like that in the past and they just look daft to me. Dive watches like that just seem a bit OTT and almost chavvy to me.

As long as you like it, then that's cool but I'd go with something more timeless (hohoho).

Do you really need to spend it? Why not stick it into a savings account (ISA?) or something and think of it as the beginnings of a house deposit (if you haven't already started)?

I don't see the point in just spending for the sake of it, you're obviously stuck for ideas as it is. Save it for something that you truly want, to remember your Grandad by.

Why must it be one thing?

I'd get a watch 500-600ish, really nice wallet and pen (mont blanc), some cufflinks maybe?

That's just what I would get of course!

Am I the only person wondering if the best way to remember the passing of your Grandad is to spend £1,000 of your Dads money on a watch?

You must have a picture of you and him together, why not get that turned into a portrait and then buy yourself a watch with what's left over.

Buy a Grandfather clock and get it personally engraved. Or a lovely pocket watch that will last a lifetime with a personal inscription and a photo inside of you and your grandad.

My dad wants me to buy something I'll keep for life

That's a tough brief. Very little I can think of that you potentially keep for life. Most everything has a short (useful) lifespan.

Anything other than drawing that you associate your Grandad with?

Do you think your Dad would be entirely happy if you bought a £1000 watch? I know mine would kill me :p

I agree, I'd say a round the world trip. You might not have anything to show for it, but it will change you and make you happy, but that's my personal opinion. (I will never ever ever forget my travelling)
If I bought a watch i'd be the same with a 1k lump that I owned. From personal knowledge, experiences are worth a million times more than possessions.
