****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

I'm not really bothered if the new chip is quad core or dual core - I know it'll be better than the 4210 we currently have which is fast as is.

My preference is dual A15's - however are they even ready yet?

We my even get 28nm A9's - die shrink, frequency boost.

Aye, definitely be faster, and being the flagship phone I'd imagine Samsung will again attempt to be leading the pack so it should be a fair bit faster :D

Apparantly Samsung had at least one 5250 demo board running (at 2560x1600 res...) at CES, so 'some' hardware is ready, how close that is to release who knows, probably be cutting it tight to ship in may time though, much as I'd like that.

afaik the chips, whatever they are, will be produced in the Texas fab which has just been upgraded to 32nm 'High-K/Metal Gate', which is, I believe, the best fab Samsung has, so almost definitely on that process, but considering the battery life we get on the SGS2 add in a (probably) bigger battery and a 32nm chip (whether dual/quad A9/A15) we should see an increase in battery life again :)

My hope is that the phone goes for £500 pay as you go, meaning I can get it for £350.
If I sell my SGS2 + Walnutt bumper + extended battery for £250, I'm only spending £100 to upgrade to a flagship phone in the middle of my 24 month contract... oh yeah!!

does anyone get a slight delay in call sometimes? the other person often starts talking at the same time as me, it's so annoying. I've tried different modems, different firmwares etc. Could it be a fault with the handset?

So the GF opted for one of these in the end.

Seriously without having to read 496 pages, which would take all year. Wha't the low down on these, in terms of unlocking, fast stable roms, etc..

These mamoth threads aren't really user friendly

Unless your GF really needs to be running custom roms just let her get on with using the phone tbh, will only end up complicating matters. Unless of course she is quite comfortable with that kind of thing.

I hear you.

Root is needed for backup purposes (titanium back up or mybackup root) and apps like theftaware - which is probably the best security app on android.

Probably needs to be unlocked too for when we're touring out of the continent.

Probably the most I would do is root and remove some of the Samsung crap and leave it at that. You can unlock for free with an asp from the market.

Well of all the roms I've tried lately MIUI seems to be the best for battery
Although it says 16 hours on the top its been 36hours if you look at the graph

Got a problem with my S2, my battery dies last night so i put it on charge and left it for a while, no problem its happened before and been fine. Except this time when i powered the phone on it said no signal instead of T-Mobile, so i switched it off, removed the sim, put it back in and switched on. Still nothing, so removed the sim and battery and left it a while, tried again and still no signal.

Looking in the settings at mobile networks etc it says no sim card in phone, there's no settings present for network, or net or anything, i thought it might be in airplane mode or something so switched it on then off but then it got stuck in airplane mode. Also the lock screen got stuck and was left with no choice but to do a factory reset. This solved nothing and the phone is still the same and its using battery like mad, 20% in about 45mins. Another sim in the phone does the same but my sim in another phone works fine so i know its not that.

Looks like the phone is fubar but i can't see how this has happened just from the battery running out, has it knackered the radio or something. Thought about trying to flash with another rom, see if it sorts it?

Had exactly the same thing happen last week to my 10 day old phone after an overnight charge. Even went into a there store to try one if their Sim cards but still nothing. Just been sent a replacement handset and old Sim card working fine.

Well got the phone. It feels cheap and tacky.

The 1st issue is that the font size is massive, almost like its for a disabled person.

Went to settings--display--screen display but there is no option to change the size of fonts.

You aren't going to be popular, you aren't allowed to think it's cheap and tacky. :p

You can edit some font sizes such as the ones in the messaging app, or if you root, you can use an LCD Density changer app to make everything smaller.

he's probably on about the huge digital clock that the wonders of TW launcher present you with. You can either hold down on it and delete it (theres a clock in the top right of the screen anwyay) or try another launcher such as ADW or Go.

LCD density changer, I guess that's what needed.

Yeah the GF wasn't at all impressed when she took the back off the phone. She picked it up after playing were sisters Desire S with its aluminium body.

The weather widget works, but the live weather wallpapers don't seem to match the weather unlike on the HTC - she hasn't noticed that yet though, lol

I thought the same when I got the phone, the biggest thing is that it is so light. The actual build is fine. Now that I have got used to it all other phones feel like a brick :D

Lucky i have insurance, looks like back to T-mobile then. Just wanted to see if there was any other option before taking it back. Using my old HD2 for now and can't believe how slow it feels to my S2 lol, and winmo 6.5 is shocking to use now.
