New Xbox to have a 6670?

GPU's used in consoles are never the same as ones used in PC's they are always customised GPU's made to order, may be on similar architecture but they always modify them in one way or another.

Also since microsoft/sony place an order for like 10 millions units at a time, im pretty sure they get HUGE discounts. so in comparison they could probably get a GPU you pay £150 for your pc for £50 for their console remember they dont need all the packaging, leads, etc and all the other stuff you get in a retail GPU.

expect the next gen consoles to last 5 years at a minimum, therefore expect pretty much high end GPU's of current but by the time of launch they will be mid end GPU's of launch time.

the Xenon in the 360 is also first GPU with unified architecture which for the time was mega impressive since the 8800GTX did'nt show up for around a year later ?.

Back on topic I would hope/expect something around Radeon 7770 in the end product. eps since the Wii U has a GPU based off a Radeon 4770 I think.

A 6670 is a joke, ive updated my rig since purchase at the start of 2009 and all ive upgraded was the ssd and graphic cards.Am using 2x Asus Mars 2 (4 gtx 580).
The next xbox should have 2x 7970 in crossfire like the power of 3 gtx 580 because the unreal samaritan demo used that and thats the standard needed. I know about the cost but a dramatic rise in console price is inevitable as time goes on.I wouldn't mind paying up to a grand. And if you think about it a powerful console meant to last 10 years against a pc which has to be upgraded at least every 4 years isn't that expensive now is it?

lol wut?

you do realise the biggest market is kids? and parents who have no intention of playing the console buying it for kids?

if a clueless parent went and saw the 720 for £1K and a PS4 for £350, why don't you guess which one they would choose.

also crossfire is the most retarded idea in the history of GPU's, it only works on some games and you never ever get twice the power, you get like 5-50% extra power for 100% more money, only people with more money than sense buy 2 GPU's.

do you really think they are going to destroy their whole brand that they have built up by producing something overpriced that only a few people would buy it therefore effectively killing the console.

your idea's are quite frankly ridiculous.

the lifespan of a console is 5 years, and it wouldn't matter if you put the most current powerful mainstream GPU in it because the technology moves so fast it's outdated within 6 months, there is no way it would last 10 years.

If they were to charge a grand per console, they'd be alienating probably 80%+ of their market at a guess from ever purchasing one.

Highest I'd expect to pay on launch for next gen is maybe (at a push) £400 for the console, a controller, and a game.

You think the 360 could run hot at times, that thing could cook your dinner for you :p

£300-£400 is the current going rate for a launch, i believe for the decent consoles (360 and ps3)

if a console actually launched at £1K in the next 2 years, that company would alienate 99% of their market i reckon, no way is anyone with a brain going to pay £1K for a console in the next 10 years. maybe in 30+ years time due to inflation.

:D

That's all that post is worth

but if you go here... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/syscon_int.php?prodid=FS-291-OK

You'll find the basis for the console you're wanting

You saying its not possible to fit 2 7970s in a console add some decent cooling and bump the price up?

or would you be happy with a low end graphic card for another 8 years.

You are missing the point of how consoles and PC's differ greatly.

Look at the games on the 360 now. Those are running on the equiv of an X1800. You'd never get anything anywhere near as good running on the same hardware on a PC due to overheads.

Consoles allow games devs direct access to the hardware, and as such can pull off some superbly efficient games that get a lot more from the system than you ever could a PC.

That 6670 suggested for the new Xbox is 6 times more powerful than the current Xbox 360 GPU. So your games are sunndely going to be 6x better graphically. That's a helluva bump even if they only stick with the 6670.

Yes it's possible but no one would be stupid enough to get another mortgage to pay for it. It completely defies the point of a console, cheap and accessible.

With regard to using a 6670:

1) It's most likely just for the cheap early builds to begin software development with. I would imagine the final console will have a much more up to date (although still not top spec) card.

2) A console's architecture is completely different to a PCs. That's why the X1800XT in the Xbox can provide much better visuals than any PC with it attached. A 6670 amended for use in a console would be a similar story.
