GAME - Gamestation, about to fold?

I went into GAME today to see if I could get Uncharted 3, second hand, cheap. They had it for £37.99 pre owned. I can get it cheaper, new, online so sod that.

Game and Gamestation are nextdoor but one to eachother here in Rochdale!

Neither have had any good deals on any games for many moons now. Supermarkets are much better.

Shops like Game make most of their money from school kids.
If you go into the city centre in the day they are empty, but then around 3-4pm they are rammed. Same as the weekend.

they better not fold, I have a substantial amount of credit on a store card for gamestation, every time i've traded something in i've put it on the card

I assume if they WERE to go bust then the card would be worthless ?

Not surprised to hear this. It's very rare I've found a worthwhile deal in store or online at any of the Gameplay (the people behind GAME & Gamestation) owned sites.

Would be a sad thing to see them go, but also a good thing. The amount of times I've seen people buying games for £40 that they can get online for £20 is shocking. See it in supermarkets as well though. I understand that sites like Play and Amazon have no retail stores so can charge cheaper but Gameplay are a total rip off.

They are selling MW3 for £32.99 brand new, and right underneath it says 'only £39.99 preowned'

went into one of the stores I used to work in and spoke with one of the guys who is the deputy, he was not dressed in the normal suit and name badge, instead he was wearing jeans and a casual shirt - he said that they are trialling a new dress code - is this GAME trying to revert to a more casual image? also he said stock levels in all stores have been reduced and that in some cases stores are struggling to fill shelves :-s

Their online site has a huge amount of items that are no longer in stock, its a bit of a mess acessories wise. Not a lot i can get for a tenner that isn't tat lol.

They seem to have run out of stock for the Soul Calibur V release this Friday, they removed all product pages from their website with the exception of the guide and arcade stick associated with the game. I have only seen something like that happen with MW3 Harded Edition, never with a fighting game though. GAME is actually the main place I buy games (online) because they seem to have special editions of games and pre order packs that nowhere else has.

Popped into my local gamestation to check if they had any dualshock 3's, they did - for £51.99 !!

Try a couple days before release, with MW3 they magically found some stock a couple of days before release! They sold out again very quick, but a few of us were lucky enough to get one ;-)

Went into my local game yesterday for the first time in about 8 months, and oh my god, where were the new games?

One tiny section of 'chart' titles available new (about 6 titles in total) and everything else second hand only.

And their second hand prices are crap too, second hand + paying for an online pass is more expensive then various online stores new price.

So i left.

Pretty much the same experience I had in Game when looking to get a replacement 360.
I actually couldn't find the price of the console new in store.
The used ones were hilarious, £120 for the old 20gb HDMI version.

They are so busy trying to push their cruddy overpriced used bundles, they've forgot to keep list new items...

They will not be missed when the go under.
