WII U to little to late?

Happy enough with my 360, so probably won't be buying a Wii U. Its gonna take one monster exclusive to get me to even consider it because I'm well aware that 'soon' the new Xbox or PS will launch and again Nintendo will have a console behind in terms of power.

I'm interested in seeing what the Wii U can do but for now i've only seen gameplay demos of their little 'collector packs' that come with the console, no actual 3rd party games. BF3 for instance was showing as an example but it was just a clip of the PC version.

I'm sure as the Wii U can now do HD 3rd party developers may spend a bit more time getting games out for it but I imagine its just like the Wii. You get 2-3 cross platform games a year and another 2 AAA from first party, all the others thrown in aren't worth the time. Nintendo are masters of intuition and I have no doubt their new controller can open up a lot of new ways to game but why would a 3rd party developer spend all that extra time and effort making use of the new touchpad controller if the other consoles don't have it? They won't. So it will be people mainly relying on a very slow trickle of 1st party games.

If the controller can work as a display so u can play whilst someone else has the tv I might be more interested

i think thats a really cool thing. and if i remember rightly they said that was something that was important. people have multiple tvs yes but unplugging your console and moving it to another room is a hassle. i think that is something they said was actually a very important part of it

The n64 and the gamecube suggest that they are indeed fallable...

The Gamecube was one of the best consoles they made, second only to the SNES for me. It has some of the best games of that generation on it! I still use my GC... my Wii sits untouched.

Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2
Resident Evil (all of them! but especially 4 and 0)
Eternal Darkness
MGS Twin Snakes
Zelda Wind Waker
Zelda Twilight Princess
Pikmin
Paper Mario 1000 Year Door
Super Monkey Ball
Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Luigi's Mansion

etc etc

It had a bundle of top rate games!

Nintendo are one of the oldest players in the home console market, they do know a thing or two about getting video games consoles into living rooms and into peoples pockets with handhelds.

You’ve only got to look at the below figures -

Sony
PlayStation 2
2000 153.6 million

Nintendo
Nintendo DS
2004 151.06 million

Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color[4]
1989 and 1998 118.69 million

Sony PlayStation
1994 102.49 million

Nintendo Wii
2006 94.97 million

Nintendo Game Boy Advance
2001 81.51 million

Sony PlayStation Portable
2004 73 million

Microsoft
Xbox 360
2005 65.8 million

Nintendo Nintendo Entertainment System
1983 61.91 million

Sony PlayStation 3
2006 55.5 million

Out of the top ten best selling consoles including handhelds, Nintendo hold 5 positions, Sony 4 and Microsoft has 1. The figures speak for themselves. Nintendo is a household name, the fact they have got this gens best selling games console that can barely look decent at 480p is testament to how creative and good at knowing what the market needs, when others didn’t. Lets face it, the Wii whilst being ancient tech did have that ‘ooo lets have a go’ factor that even older parents could join in on. You can’t put a price on that, parents playing video games with their children will always sell… The Wii figures show you just how true this is.

Many years ago they got caught napping when Sony developed the Playstation (there is another story to this) and Nintendo felt Cartridges would be the way forward still. Sony had Nintendo clearly on the ropes, even Microsoft got the better in someway, however with the wii Nintendo clearly demonstrated they do indeed know what they are doing.

I don’t think the Wii U will be a failure, the tablet controller itself with its built in VMU type display, compatibility with Wii controllers and 1080p display, and the fact it’s the first of the next gen consoles to be announced it will leave Sony and Microsoft again looking to try and replicate with Nintendo are doing..

Still many gave up with the Wii after the initial wow factor whore off as they just got bored of the selection of titles, if Wii U can combine the fun factor of Wii, but bring mainstream core gamers into the mix as well as causal party gamers etc, and the tablet controller that can be used whilst the TV is in use, then I can’t see how it’ll fail.

Be interesting to see how ‘well’ it does actually sell, but I must admit, a Wii type console that is more powerful then an xbox360 or Ps3? I mean, we all have a soft spot for Mario or Mario kart, it does look promising…

Oh and the gamecube wasn’t really a failure, it did feature some rather excellent games.

I loved the gamecube it had amazing games and i owned a wii for about 6 months till i let my gran have it. I wished i kept the wii as its got some very good games on it. But thankgod i can play them on the wii u when it comes out. So not only will have some new wii u games to play i can get some very good wii games (and probably very cheap) aswell so winner:)

The Wii-U will be left behind again.
I don't want it left behind but it will be. It doesn't have DX11 and the other 2 will.
DX11 is taking off now so imagine 2 or 3 years down the line. Games will be made using DX11 then won't get ported over because yet again Nintendo hasn't used the latest tech. The main downfall with Nintendo is their lack of 3rd party AAA titles which are huge on the 360 & PS3. Multi platform games will again be left unreleased on the Wii-U

Luigi's mansion, external darkness (style over gameplay, was so boring) and monkey ball are highly debatable to say the least.

I had a GameCube and in hindsight if you didn't like resident evil it was pretty rubbish. Despite the AAA nintendo franchises is was alnost n64 esque.

This is it really, people always hark on about the PS3 having x y z exclusives which the 360 doesn't, but most people want to play the big multi-plat blockbusters which up to now Nintendo's consoles either haven't had, or have had half-baked ports with gimmicky controls integrated to make up for the serious lack of power in the machine.

Will the same happen to the Wii U? who knows, but Nintendo need to make it a priority to get CoD, Battlefield, FIFA etc at the same time as the other two companies or it will struggle to attract over the hardcore audience.

Thats not to say it can't be successful without the hardcore players, look at the Wii for example, but there's no way ill be touching one if the only thing to look forward to is a Nintendo title every 4 years with dross in between .

Does the PS3 have DX11, and will the PS4 have DX11?

I dont think Microsoft would let them somehow. DirectX11 features dont seem that great. A bit of tesellation I cant notice. Shadows are good, but its features arent that giant of a leap.

Its not the features of the static hardware that makes great games, great games are made whatever. Nintendo know a little bit about that.

That's one of the main functions of the controller and was shown in the original video promoting the new console.

Some playing mario...person wants to watch tv, changes channel, continue to game on the control pad.

Which really is a great idea.

It's OK, but I wouldn't pay money for it.

I understand that it won't appeal as a selling point to everyone Nitefly...I was confirming a question about it from Alpherah.

What I think needs to happen to get more people onside from the "hardcore" perspective is since it is launching in fall 2012...if the inevitable Call of Duty release is announced for launch on the system as well as some other 3rd Party Titles which the Nintendo consoles would not normally get then the new system will sell very well.

Regardless of what happens Nintendo will have a free run at the 2012 fall arena and if the stock is available the sales will come.

I have renewed faith in this system as I believe Nintendo will go ahead to correct the previous consoles failings...in the eyes of the "hardcore" at least.

All in all E3 will be interesting for sure.

LOL so how come people in here and in the xbox 720 thread, defending the 6670 as if its a great GPU for a console get bash the WII-U which has a better GPU LOL:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

priceless this place is

The Wii-u is equiped to be more "next gen" then the xbox 720:eek:

To be fair it's ridiculous to judge the Home Consoles GPU's on the architecture they are based on by comparing the PC Equivalent Components, it just simply doesn't work out that way.

Heck the 360 is based on x1800 cards architecture so the 6670 architecture is waaaaaaaaaaay out in front. This in turn may change if these are simply for the dev kits which notoriously early use other models of cards before the finalisation of the product.

All I know and I am happy about is that Nintendo is bringing a bit of power with it to the party this time around!

I expect the Wii U to be a relatively cheap console, no more than £200 at launch. I think it'll be too expensive for the taget audience otherwise (families who are probably still largely happy with their infrequently used wiis).
