WII U to little to late?

Yea i know what you mean mate but the wii-u is basically on par with the new xbox when u look at it face value on what we know about each platform. That is my point really. Point being that the Wii-U is not just a Wii with xbox 360 graphics. it is a Wii that can be regarded as proper next gen.

LOL so how come people in here and in the xbox 720 thread, defending the 6670 as if its a great GPU for a console get bash the WII-U which has a better GPU LOL:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

priceless this place is

The Wii-u is equiped to be more "next gen" then the xbox 720:eek:

Where do we start:

1. Wii-U has been announced, Xbox is just rumours at the moment
2. IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT GRAPHICS, it's amazing how this doesn't seem to be seeping in, nearly all the negatives of the wii are about nearly everything else about the console from control method to uncertainties about the online system.

Oh no I'm aware of that mate...

It's going to be a hell of a lot more powerful than the current gen.

I think it's a hard sell at the moment as they haven't shown anything to completely wow anyone. I have to say the Zelda HD demo they showed which was rendered real time was really impressive. If that is the kind of thing they can produce in final titles then there is definitely something to get excited about.

The leaks pre-E3 and the E3 presentation itself are where we really will find out just how powerful the new tech is and just how seriously Nintendo are approaching the target markets.

We know nothing about the online system. All we know about is the controller. The specs on the Wii-U is not final

We now know a little

Nintendo has finally confirmed its plans for the Nintendo Network, a formal, branded service for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Outlining the concept in brief during an investor's program, company president Satoru Iwata confirmed the online infrastructure is already in place for the service.

Iwata quickly drew a contrast with his company's previous Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection program:

"Unlike Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which has been focused upon specific functionalities and concepts, we are aiming to establish a platform where various services available through the network for our consumers shall be connected via Nintendo Network service so that the company can make comprehensive proposals to consumers."

The publisher's plans are as follows:

Personal Accounts for Wii U - Nintendo will now allow personalized accounts for its next home console, which will allow multiple users per system. Online profiles will no longer be system-based. "We will also be able to construct and offer the [personal account system] by combining a variety of different services and content," Iwata said.

Digitally Distributed Packaged Software -Nintendo is exploring the idea of selling full retail games through the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The company is not willing to say when this program will start, but it now has the full ability to do so. Iwata noted Nintendo would need to consider retailer relationships first. He also noted SD card space limitations would be another factor. "The significance of this business field will increase," said Iwata.

Paid Downloadable Content - As we've heard previously, publishers will now be able to offer paid DLC for different games, starting with Square's Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, which will allow players to purchase new songs for the rhythm-based game. The title releases in Japan on February 16.

"As a software maker, Nintendo believes that its packaged software should be sold to our consumers in a form so that the consumers will know in advance that they can enjoy playing the software they purchased just as it is," Iwata said. "We believe that our consumers will be able to feel more secure if we offer our add-on content as an additional structure in which those who love the game will be able to enjoy it in a deeper way for a prolonged play time."

Iwata wrapped the Nintendo Network segment of his investor presentation with the following statement: "Whether it's our first-party titles or third parties' titles, for a number of games, we will actively attempt to achieve compatibility so that our consumers can enjoy our online services that we will deploy under the name of the Nintendo Network."

All in all not much known but Individual Profiles, Investigating the viabilty of digitally distributed software, DLC paid for looks like it will be available.

If anything they will be going down the same route as XBox Live and PSN before it.

Still many gave up with the Wii after the initial wow factor whore off as they just got bored of the selection of titles, if Wii U can combine the fun factor of Wii, but bring mainstream core gamers into the mix as well as causal party gamers etc, and the tablet controller that can be used whilst the TV is in use, then I can’t see how it’ll fail.

This is where I still have a niggle about the next Nintendo home console. They got a LOT of people to buy Wiis who previously have never been interested in getting a console at all. How many of our mothers or sisters have Wiis but never expressed an interest before?

The question I still ask is, if some of those particular Wii owners stopped using it because the novelty wore off, what is going to incentivise those particular people, the people who drove the Wii to it's success, to buy its replacement?

As I've said several times in other threads, I know nobody that owns a Wii that still uses it, or even used that much in the first place. Many of them don't own PS3s or 360s either. None of them will buy the next Wii. They will not buy the successor to a machine they barely used.

I know whatever Nintendo do will sell and will have great games. I just can't help thinking that they caught a lot of people in their net this time around that might not be in the market for the next go around.

And please let me explain my previous N64 & Gamecube comment. It wasn't about the quality of the games or the experience those consoles offered that I was judging, but the sales compared to its rivals at the time. They made money off of them and the gamers that bought them loved them. But they never did close to as well as Nintendo would have wanted, exactly the same as started to happen with the 3DS before they cut the price.

I understand that it won't appeal as a selling point to everyone Nitefly...I was confirming a question about it from Alpherah.

What I think needs to happen to get more people onside from the "hardcore" perspective is since it is launching in fall 2012...if the inevitable Call of Duty release is announced for launch on the system as well as some other 3rd Party Titles which the Nintendo consoles would not normally get then the new system will sell very well.

Regardless of what happens Nintendo will have a free run at the 2012 fall arena and if the stock is available the sales will come.

I have renewed faith in this system as I believe Nintendo will go ahead to correct the previous consoles failings...in the eyes of the "hardcore" at least.

All in all E3 will be interesting for sure.

As i said earlier, I completely agree with the above.

With most consoles people are looking for block buster first party titles to sell the machine, but this hasn't been an issue for Nintendo ever in the past, their issue is getting the big third party / cross plat games.
Everyone expects Mario .. Zelda.. Metroid at or around release, what will really shift consoles would be a new COD and FIFA, with superior gfx and features to the PS3 and 360 versions. And a fixed online too.

I just can't see anyone buying a whole new console for a Call Of Duty they can already play on their existing one, especially as it will likely be a lesser experience in many aspects:

1. Controls - Is it even getting a normal controller? Who wants to play COD with a dinner plate?

2. Friends - Unless all your friends want to buy a new console as well you're more likely to want to play with them

3. Online - Will Ninty manage to match XBL and PSN? It's a tall order.

Well that is an issue yes, but my point was that ill never buy a Nintendo based console unless they can prove to me that they take the big third party titles seriously and they will be available.

Will I be getting one, yes. I like what Nintendo do and their 1st party stuff, Mario and Zelda.

Also, confirmed for the Wii-U, Project CARS

Honestly, it doesn't look very good =/

-edit-

Or rather, as good as i would hope, it looks like current gen stuff.

Good thing its a very early build.

Yeh its only a pre-alpha build. It just highlights that its being noticed by more developers as a viable platform. This can only be a good thing.

no offense but why would any buy that game on the WII U

when PC version will have mods and best wheel support

or the PS3 or xbox 360 which will also have better wheel support than the WII U

Its more about highlighting the momentum that the Wii-U is building up with 3rd party developers. Its looking exciting and powerful in the eyes of the developers and publishers. That can only be healthy for the future of the Wii-U.

Why would I buy most games for Xbox or PS3 when I can play at higher res and more FPS on my PC. I can say that for most things. As for the wheel controller, we don't know what the Wii-U tablet will be like, or if there will be 3rd party wheel support?

Let's not forget many people bought the PS3 just for the blu-ray functionality because at that time they were seen to be a better deal than a stand alone player. I doubt the majority of those that bought it for a player will look to upgrade it just because Sony are releasing a new console. I'd say there is more chance Nintendo shifting units to those that don't play there Wii all that much now compared to those that bought the PS3 for a BR player :)

Fifa 12 is the first Fifa game in ages to use the same engine as the PS3 and 360 counterparts though. anyone buying fifa on the PC for the years prior to 12 have been getting a half baked version.
