Force 3 Slow speeds? D:

Hey guys ive been trying to fix this for quite a few weeks now to no avail my force 3 ssd has been getting terrible reads and writes, reads 100/140mbps and writes of 50!!! mbps i mean seriously 50mbps. i have the ssd pluged into one of my sata3 6gbps ports on my board. im not sure if it uses a intel controller or a 3rd party one, its a g1 assassin motherboard. i checked in bios to see if i could see anything to do with it (maby not picking up as 6gbps port) but i couldn't find anything any ideas?
 
All X58 boards use 3rd party controllers for SATA3.0 6GBps ports as only on the next generation (6-Series) did Intel have their own. This might be part of your problem but I would have expected to see higher results. What are you using to benchmark? do you have the port in AHCI mode?

Have you tried doing a Secure Erase or Clean All on the drive? Frankly too much benchmarking on SSDs can kill the performance.
 
I have been using CrystalDiskMark benchmarker. i have had a new windows installed on the drive in the last week so i cant see it being a unclean drive, ive always had these speeds since i got the ssd, and it is running in AHCI
 
I tested with the tool you recommended and still the same however i noticed it says PCIIDE - BAD, could it be something to do with that?

i was goign to update the fw before but i thought thats only for crashing or something? could that be a problem with ti and i have the marvel ahci drivers but il re update them if they need it :)
 
Personally I think most of it comes down to the fact that the Marvell SATA 3.0 ports are vastly inferior vs the Intel ones. You could try plugging the drive into the Intel SATA 2.0 ports if you haven't already, I've found that even though they are rated for SATA 2.0 they can be quicker. Make sure they are also in AHCI mode and that you use the latest version of Rapid Storage off the Gigabyte website.

FW versions can offer increased performance, but it won't be anything huge. Worth a shot anyways just back your data up first before making any changes to FW or ports as suggested.
 
If I were you I wouldn't bother with the Marvell controllers m8. Marvell always run half as
slow as the Intel/Southbridge controllers.

The reason you are getting slow speeds is because its plugged into the board on the Marvell
controller SATAIII ports.

You need to plug the drive into one of the ports between SATA2_0~SATA2_5
at the minute its pluggin into a port between GSATA3_6, GSATA3_7
Yes its only in a SATAII port but should run quick than the Marvell controller.
Also you would be better testing your drive with ATTO disk benchmark.

Most other SSD test programmes use compressed files to test the speed of the drive,
but a SSD is fastest when its reading un-compressed files so try ATTO instead when you
have changed the ports for the SSD m8.
 
That's what I said, yeh it wont run at top speed but it will run better than the
Marvell controllers.

But seriously you are not going to get the best out of an SSD until its on an Intel SATA 3.0 port. Still one of the main benifits is the super low latency, so even without the transfer speeds the whole system will still feel snappier anyways. Using both AS SSD and ATTO is a good way to gauge how the drive is performing but it shouldn't overdone, one test of each is enough. Too much synthetic data is never good for an SSD, some more than others.
 
Ok guys thanks for the advice il change it over to the sata 2 and see what i get out of that and then il decide on what to leave it in perm, thank you :D bit annoyed that my g1 assassin cant really fully utilize the ssd but oh well cant complain :D still over does a hdd
