What are you talking about, $1=£0.636 and the cheapest 7970s from here are £367 or $577 if you exclude VAT.
That's not more than $20 more expensive than in the US.
I paid £400 for a graphics card once, when I was young and ignorant. Never again, the max I'd pay for one now is £180~
Except that they don't really have much time to drop the price. The current high price would just put people that originally planned on upgrading to 7950 or 7970 to wait and see what Nvidia has to offer.
Heh, I am with you on this - £200 is the sweet-spot for most ppl. I would go over if I could get like-for-like (GTX 480 SLI performance) from a single card.
How many PC games actually need these cards anyway? My older rig plays most of today's PC games fine. The problem also lies in the games. Too many ports or shoddy releases in general. I can't wait till the new consoles come out; so we can get some better quality PC games.

The truth.
People paying £400-£500 for Gfx cards now, will one day, look back and cringe when real life catches up with them.![]()
As for prices on the 79xx cards, i personally think they're an utter disgrace, and people who buy them at such prices are complete tools for rewarding the blatant price gouging going on.
Just because minority of people with more money than sense buying them doesn't mean the card ain't overpriced. Think back about the GTX480 launch...it was at a ridiculous £450...and because of people had the will to refuse to pay that kind of money for the card and the cards weren't selling, which basically in a sense sending Nvidia a message that they are no fool, the prices was quickly slashed down to £380 within just a month."I can't afford it so everyone who can is a complete idiot, life isn't fair, etc... "
They are charging an amount that people deem acceptable for the current fastest single GPU. People are paying this amount.
These cards obviously are not meant for you at all.
The current AMD card prices IS overpriced, but unless there are enough people sending AMD the same message by refuse to buy the cards at the current price point and make AMD hugely misses their sale target, I doubt we will see any price drop before Nvidia's new cards arrive.
It's obviously not overpriced enough if people are still buying.
If you're going to be in the market of selling graphics cards to make profit, why would you not try and maximise the amount earned for each card?
It's hardly more money than sense either, it's just a case of having enough money and not being overly fussed.
Do you expect them to sell these cards for less than the competing 3GB Nvidia card?
It's rinse and repeat stuff, every time the new gen is released, forum posters violently foam at the mouth at how expensive the cards are. Everyone who buys one is a stupid idiot, and must have no concept of money.
Don't want to spend that price, fine. No need to insult everyone who doesn't have issue with it.
It's obviously not overpriced enough if people are still buying.
