Sounds as though they are on borrowed time if no money to pay up front publishers do not want to give them games so it sounds like sooner or later they will go bust (Mass Effect3 was probably one of their biggest selling pre-orders as well on PC ).

The only major negative here for PC gaming is less choice & retail takes 1 giant step closer to becoming extinct in the UK which is bad news for anyone without a fast/reliable ISP (most of us!!). Not all of us want to buy digital only & pay inflated prices

Would be a massive loss but I can't say as I'm surprised! In Leicester we have like 2 stores within half a mile from each other.. I'm no businessman but surely the 1 store will look better in terms of Sales?

In all honesty the online retailers will still sell hard copies and you can never say you got a good deal for a new game (or even second hand) out of game or HMV. I always expected to pay an extra £5 out of any game i got from Game. If I could wait for a couple of days id go online. Once i locked into Steam sales, that was the end of retail purchasing really. im on a 20mb connection which seems adequate, I would have thought not many are on less than 10?

No loss really. Their prices are pretty bad, whenever I go into a store they have loud music playing, the staff are no help and often don't have a clue about anything not COD related. Just my experiences down here

I used to shop there often - but with lack of PC games, and their exchange policies changing in store so that they're unwilling to take back games if you don't like it means I won't simnply have impulse buys anymore as I know I can't just take it back.

Before this, I would often buy games, and sure a few I'd take back but most I'd keep. Taking it back of course was for console only :p

I can't remember the last time I went into a GAME shop anyway. If I want a boxed copy of a game I use companies like shopto, gameplay, play, amazon etc. Feel sorry for anyone that will lose their job and I think it will affect people who are maybe not so internet savvy and just want to pop into somewhere to buy a gift or something, but it's not the end of the world for gamers.

Haha I've had the same experiences, back in my console haydays I went to a Halo launch party and all they kept doing was trying to flog me halo ***p.

Come on, it is not like Game are the bastion of "Excellent value".

The quicker retail becomes extinct, the lower digital prices will go.

Consoles, not so much as they will used a "walled garden" model of "only buy from us", It will suck to own a console :) (Well, no change then).

Dropping PC games was a silly idea. In Oldham we have a Game and a Gamestation, and neither have any real PC offerings beyond WoW.

With consoles they just do not compare well to the supermarkets on price.

Maybe not for you but for those of us who could get £10-15 off the RRP by pre-ordering with them instead of paying the digital stealth taxes :(

I've preordered Mass Effect 3 CE, is it not looking good for me to receive it? :O

Do they automatically take the cash out of my bank account or wait until it's in stock.

I might go elsewhere if that's the case.

What I want to know is how HMV is still going?!

bad, they are literally on tipping point. There losses were mental last year and the banks agreed to keep them afloat on the basis that they can half it within a year or two - basically if they cant expect them to be dead by 2015.

One of the major issues is that I do find game cheap online to buy some of the games compared to play.com or amazon.co.uk or steam.

The issue is that currently a lot of companies use Jersey to avoid Tax and this loophole is closing soon so prices on games will increase online.
