GAME in financial trouble

I have a m8 who works in HMV, from what they are telling staff it is only a matter of time. He is actually looking for a new job now before it is to late.

Ours shutdown and is now a bank!

The issue is that currently a lot of companies use Jersey to avoid Tax and this loophole is closing soon so prices on games will increase online.

Doesn't effect Steam where I (and lots of other) buy most of our games.

Only a matter of time :( I only ever go in to check whats out in terms of DVDs and the odd impulse buying.

No it wont please get educated.
The LVCR applies to items under £18 (which most games arent) that is not THE reason why online stores can maintain cheaper prices - its because they dont have all the mental shop overheads etc that Game, HMV etc do.

I wont miss them if they go under, in fact i would nearly go as far as to say, they deserve it. I dont know what it is like in the rest of the UK, but over here their prices are insanity as are the value of items when trading stuff in. They have ripped the ass right out of it over the years. I dont use them anymore and have not done so in a few years..its the regualar kids and punters i feel sorry for. Good riddance.

No i know that but Steam's pretty expensive on a number of titles. Digital items IMO should be cheaper but in a lot of cases you can find the boxed versions (that you still need to register with steam) for anywhere between £5-£10 cheaper.

Probably should have said I only buy in a Steam sale! :D

Prices are often fixed at the RRP to protect retail but if they are going down maybe that well change too.

I'm aware of that but a number of PC games are either sold just below this threshold or just above. Not to mention DVD's/Blu Rays. If the changes occur as a lot of items are shipped from Jersey it could cause prices to rise overall.

A good example is Fall of the Samurai is being sold for £17.99 play.com or £24.99 at Game, Amazon, Gamestation. So either companies get 'creative' with pricing or something else may happen.

But I have ordered plenty of things from game.uk.com that hae been cheaper then their rivals and then the other thing you take into consider is postage delivery times + Costs. Play.com for example has been dire as of late!

No loss really. Their prices are pretty bad, whenever I go into a store they have loud music playing, the staff are no help and often don't have a clue about anything not COD related. Just my experiences down here

Yip.

Unless it is some overhyped crowd pleaser game they have no clue.

Stop shopping there years ago as a PC gamer.

I'm guessing that Gamestation will have problems then too, considering they're owned by Game? (I think).

GAME Are stupid

This is the problems with there demise

1. To Many stores close together -
In Lakeside (Shopping center) 4 Stores! Blue water - 2! these shopping center are very close to...
2. Most of the time they are overstaffed in some stores and understaffed in other stores.
3. PC Gaming Section is Dire
4. There prices for buying games off you are dire.
5. I hear from a game employee they only earn decent profit on pre-owned.

You cannot run a business like this....

Dropping pc games has nothing to do with their financial troubles. they would have probably already folded if they still stocked lots of pc games.

I've preordered Mass Effect 3 CE, is it not looking good for me to receive it? :O

Do they automatically take the cash out of my bank account or wait until it's in stock.

I might go elsewhere if that's the case.

They debit your account when they ship the game.
