GAME in financial trouble

Yes, I hate this. My girlfriend works in retail and is constantly pressured to go up to customers asking if they need assistance or telling them about offers, she hates this and tries to avoid doing it as often as possible.

I don't blame her. 99% of people would politely tell her to go away since they would go to you if they wanted something...

When I walk past a Game shop, I think to myself "If I go in there one of the drones is going to jump on me straight away and ask if I need help."

And I'll go somewhere else instead.

If the idiot manager who enforces this behaviour is by some slim chance reading this, please learn from it ;)

The managers used to force this on us when I worked at an electrical shop begining with M as a weekend job many m00ns ago, hated it! mainly because it used to **** me off when I was shopping!

I'll miss them ... yup, I'm one of those mugs who goes in, likes to read and fondle the covers and buy a hard copy there and then ... I know I pay a bit more but that's all part of the gaming experience for me and my local stores are pretty decent.

The gaming world will be a little bit dimmer without Game I reckon :(

Who knows they probably may get bought out.. There's obviously a market still out there but the company as a whole has been badly managed.

They were a terrible business long before the advent of online retailers. I remember back in the 90s after their brief ascent to being a nationwide outlet they opened up the largest game store ever in town, it was the size of a department store, 3 massive floors, just for games... needless to say that closed within a few years in favor of more numerous, much smaller outlets. With sheer madness like that at the helm even in the 'good' times and an apparent unwillingness to adapt to get a cut of the online market, then good riddance tbh.

I think its safe to say that there screwed

from 73p to 5p in less than a year

There's another thread about this, and tbh I've never liked Game and I'm more into second hand gaming anyway.

I went into Game recently do to a price comparison, spent some time looking around for the section marked "PC Games" only to be shown to 1 small section at the back of the store, next to the DS games, the rest of the store was covered in XBox and PS3 titles....

Need I say more?

Funny you should mention this, GAME opened up a huge store in Nottingham back in the 90's. It was two floors crammed with big box PC titles and console games... Hardly any second hand market however I've no idea what this store is like today as haven't been to Nottingham in years. It also sold PC hardware if anyone can remember GAME when it 'did' take an interest in the PC market. GAME or the GAME group was at one time revered for many gamers or at least their high street presence once was, however just look at them now.

If its anything like the local branch to me now, full of second hand console games, second hand consoles and next to nothing for PC gamers. GAMESTATION has always looked dingy and I’ve always felt like walking into a GAMES WORKSHOP, you walk in hoping no one sees you enter or leave…

There is a thread in the console sub forum which is telling that the GAME Group is indeed in a bit of trouble...

I'd just love to see decent PC hardware in the purple place, instead of crappy overpriced stuff, if they opened a PC enthusiast section like they did when they put Apple stores inside them it would be awesome.

Either that or OCUK need to open a shop in Sheffield

If game ever did make it until next gen consoles, the measures being taken to prevent 2nd hand sales would put them under.

Again thats only IF they make it that long.

As for experiences in store, I remember going in and asking for Battlefield 2. After about 5 minutes of digging through the drawer behind the till, the guy turned around and said did you say Battlefield 2, or Star Wars Battlefront 2. I did not say Star Wars in the slightest.

Pretty much. Second hand seems to be the only thing keeping retail stores afloat and publishers are already trying to get their hand into that cookie jar. Won't be long till they either stop second hand sales completely or make it only profitable for themselves.

^^^ You can't just blame on piracy.

Everything is getting expensive, living cost going up and pay raises stay the same.
Not every family can afford to spend £30-40 on game each month.
