T-Mobile Full Monty (unlimited etherything)

thanks,

I get on HSPA...

Ping - 84 ms
Download - 966 Kbps
Upload - 449 Kbps

Is that acceptable or should I ask for more? It doesn't look like much to me.

That's what I used to see - 8-900kbps and 3-500kbps

In perspective,my new 3 SIM got me 3700~odd kbps and 1600~odd kbps yesterday.

TBH, if I could've got somewhere with T-Mobile on speeds (and I did try many times/routes !) I may well have stayed out of loyalty etc., but the package I now have is a no-brainer @ just over £5/month nett. for quite a bit more on all counts !

Yes, but 3 service is dire. And their signal is crap, I go cycling a lot so I need a decent 2G signal for out in the sticks.

It's less than 1Mbps down and 0.5 Mbps up.

Depends on how good your signal is. Best to take readings from multiple postcode locations to be sure.

ok, but if I call them will I be able to remove the cap?

<snip>...3 service is dire. And their signal is crap....<snip>

I have heard this mentioned many times also, but signal is fine in all the usual locations I go to and the coverage map tends to suggest no concerns for me - this is very subjective, though, granted.
As for Service, I am not too worried about this.....being Sim-Only, for a relatively short term at a very small overall cost, I figured I can take the gamble. The one and only call I have made to them was to check on my number port, and this was handled very courteously and promptly and easily the equal to most of my T-Mobile service calls over the years.
Still....the above may all come back to haunt me  but will only be at a cost of £60 in the worst possible case scenario

I was cheeky enough to call account queries again and ask about keeping my 50% discount, their response was basically as follows but much more polite:

'WTH, you get everything on this tariff for £36 - 2000 mins, unlimited texts and unlimted internet, what more could you ask for? What the upgrade team told you was correct, your discount applied to older tariffs only and you could have kept it on an older tariff, but this is a new tariff and isnt eligible for the discount you had, and its much better than all of our older tariffs that were eligible for discounts'.

I think I shant be calling them again to try and get the Full Monty for £18 pm lol, /bartering skill fail.

The thing is though I'm not bothered at all about the minutes or texts, I'd rather take a price plan with 100 mins, 100 texts, and proper 'unlimited' data including tethering and Voip just for connecting to my MMOs and steam.

But no one does anything like that. £25 pm for a handset, unlimited internet + tethering, and just 100 mins + texts and I'd be very happy.

They said the same to me about discounts.

They did offer me a deal with less minutes, unlimited texts and 3GB internet for £30 a month. Not sure thats worth it over the £36 Full Monty though?

I'm in the exact same boat. My current contract with o2 does include unlimited internet as far as i'm aware. Not sure of the speeds but i average about 1.8GB downloads per month and never had an issue.

Problem is i'm paying £35 per month for it and don't really want to be paying that much anymore.

I'd go GiffGaff but i want a new phone and can't really afford to buy one outright.

Definitely not, I'd switch to the full monty.

I was on £229 monthly credit and 10 Gb internet before for £32 pm with my discount, which also had an option for unlimited texts for an extra £5 pm which I didnt need.

The Full Monty has 2000 mins, unlimited texts, and fully unlimited internet for £36 pm, I'd pay the extra just for the internet - plug phone into PC, use internet for whatever you want without worrying about any limits. I just have to wait for the Lumia 800 to support tethering, but the new phone came with a microsim adaptor so I can put the sim card in my old phone to use tethering.

Also calls to other T mobile phones are unlimited as well, but all the calls and texts are useless to me, I just took it for the internet and handset.

They wont be letting anyone keep their discounts if moving onto this price plan, I remember T mobile telling me once that they couldnt give me better deals than they would do to anyone else, and I've had to argue LOTS of times in the past to keep my discount when upgrading. This time it was a flat out no if moving onto this plan, but I could have still kept it on any previous price plan for life which isnt breaching the T+Cs as the lifetime reduction offer was still there (it never said you could keep the discount on future price plans, just for life on the price plan you took with it).

They would similarly tell people who complain too much about wanting to keep their discounts that other T mob customers have already given up their 50% discounts to move onto the full monty 36 instead, and they arent going to be giving it at 50% off to anyone, otherwise a lot of people in my position would be seriously ****ed off. 3's one plan was only £2 pm cheaper on the phone I got, although it did have a big cashback offer and 3 would match that and reduce the line rental by £5 pm, T mobile wouldnt even match this, no reductions at all allowed on the full monty, they would rather give you your pac code so you can change to 3 instead.

Have to admit that I was surprised how quickly/readily T-Mobile gave me a PAC; no real discussion or attempts to keep me......all previous renewals, there have been many discussions and calls back and forth, but this time they were just like meh !
Never mind, but - now I come to think of it - a little out of character ?

I've been tempted by 3 but dont want to end up being on a crap network for 2 years.

Not sure I use a phone enough anymore to justify spending so much a month either.

Flext 40 - £20
WnW Max - £11.25
+2.5% Vat increase = £32.xx

This one is just £4 pm more, but has no more data limits. I've been temped by 3 for a long time as well but prefer t mob.

In November they told me that I would be allowed to change my tariff to anything at £35 pm or more and keep my discount, but this could change if there were new plans out. This would be the case of a new plan where they would rather let you leave than let you keep the discount, as they would be losing far too much money on giving it at half price with a free phone.

If you don't make them any money why would they keep you?

Perhaps, but for the last 7/8yrs I have been on £35 contracts, sometimes £30, and every renewal has been a little game, but get something in the end....this year was, and just felt different - my monthly payment has been largely the same, so....
Either way, I plan to buy Sim-free wherever possible from now = lots of shiny new things as and when, and - all-in-all - seemingly best deals on the whole are SIM only

seemingly best deals on the whole are SIM only

How?

The One Plan sim free is £25 pm.

A Nokia Lumia 800 costs £400 sim free. Over 24 months that would cost the equivalent of £41.66 per month with a sim only One Plan.

Getting it for free on £36 (Tmob), or £34 (3) pm is the better deal.

This plan is purely for data users. If you dont need that much data then you dont need either the one plan or full monty. If you do then this is the best deal for getting your internet fully covered on your mobile phone contract.
