And an air rifle isn't suffient enough for all of the above?
Just want to reiterate that I'm not against it, just looking for someone to convince me that anybody would possibly need more than an air rifle
I will assume you don't live in the countryside then...

Whatever you do...do NOT mention home defence, zombie invasion etc as reasons to want one. You'll be refused and probably referred for psychiatric treatment.

zombies are gonna be real some day, but knifes/sharp edged weapons will be better. Guns attract huge sound.
Best bet for ranged weapons is a crossbow. Take a 9mm silenced pistol around with you for the oh **** moments, deals hardly any sound with the muzzle. Will still have flash though (unless you can stack a flash muzzle with a silencer?)
Cant shoot clays with a single pellet rifle (or not easily) plus range and speed it would be a nightmare .
Air rifles are fine for short range vermin control . rabbits/pigeons at a rough max range of 35 yards . Its is not legal to shoot anything bigger in the uk with an air rifle .
Target shooting is fine once again up to a max of 50 yards (yes i know they can shoot further but not by much ) Most people who shoot target rifle (unless rimfire) are shooting over 500 yards .
And on the zombie question a rifle would be usless unless picking them off at long range .. would much rather have a shotty up close . Pump is fine and faster to load than a side by side (but not as fast as a semi auto ) there not much louder than a normal shotgun . legal capacity in the uk on a sgc is 1 up the spout and 2 in the tube . can get 12 shot on a fac if u have a good reason![]()
Because wanting to defend your home is a bad thing? Stupid UK laws![]()
Suppressed guns are still loud, very loud actually.
There are few guns that can be "silenced" to a point of you being able to shoot someone and people around you not knowing where it come from.
Rifles are a different matter.
as for crossbows you probably want to go with the PSE 10/15(i)'s.
The top bit is not entirely true. A subsonic bullet like a .22 with a decent mod will be almost silent from a couple of foot away. Even the firing of a .17hmr is very quiet, it's the SS crack that makes lots of noise, although to a person who does not know what it is wouldn't put it down to a gun shot.
I want to get a Beretta, just in case the Zeds do come.
Where would I go to buy one?
I hear your concerns OP.
35 yards with an air rifle? lolololololololol. sorry. Try looking at some newer models my 23 year old lightning could do that and the spring is about 15 years old. if it was a brand new spring then double it easy.
Fair point
Although a 9 shot bolt action .17HMR would probably get you a bit further than a double barrel. .243 or .308 Is where it is at for zombie population control![]()
Depends where you live as to whether they insist on a gun cabinet or not. I use a gun clamp.
As said above, the police need a good reason not to give you a SGC. Talking about the zombie apocalypse would probably be just the reason they are looking for to turn you down...
What justifiable reason (other than working in Armed Response) would anyone ever have for requiring a gun?
Not that I'm against it at all but seriously how can you justify requiring a gun?
"I'm the founding member of my local NRA"
"I shoot rats at the airport"
"I'm a game hunter"
I honestly can't see any reason why anyone would handover a gun to anybody because surely the only reason to buy a gun is to cause harm and/or "protect thy family, with thy big ass shotgun"
well firstly you realise zombies aren't real?
